Hah, I was wondering how many Beach Boys were still in the band. I guess it’s like the Temptations, the Four Tops, and a bunch of other bands from the 60s. At this point, if any of them have more than 2 original members in the band, let alone alive, I’m impressed.

Homer The Brave is wearing a hawaiian shirt (of course)

Poor Roadies. Even in the sunshine they wear black.

I smell lip synch. I’m outta here.

Anne, you have exceptional olfactory senses.

Some guys went to see Brian Wilson and swore his keyboard wasn’t even plugged in.

Hey Curt, how’s the beach?
May 31st, 2010 at 5:00 pm
Very nice. Litchfield is just south of Myrtle Beach. Great weather – a little hot, but very tolerable – and zero of the cheese from Myrtle. Although we did head up there today and hit the Ripley’s Aquarium, checked out some Putt Putt courses and some water slides. All the glory Myrtle has to offer. Thanks.

Signs of the Apocalypse: Marlins are selling unused tickets for the perfect game thrown against them.
May 31st, 2010 at 5:46 pm
I bet they have a lot of those tickets still laying around…

There’s an article on the AJC site about JJ possibly being back by late June… What happens with Medlen? Also, they have to call up Resop (4-1 w/ 2.something ERA at AAA) soon or let him go… Should be interesting to see what moves are going to be made. My guess would be that both Resop and Medlen will go to the pen. What do you fine folks think?

Some choice quotes from the Post article on Jeffrey, [and my uberobnoxious reactions in superfly brackets]
Milwaukee: Jeff Francoeur is done listening to most of the hitting advice he has been receiving. [this is old news, pal]
The struggling Mets right fielder was told by manager Jerry Manuel during a meeting yesterday that it’s time he tuned out the chatter in his brain. [and the chatter in his mouth, too, Jerry was thinking]
“I’ve let way too many people into my circle of trust,” Francoeur said before the Mets’ 8-6 loss to the Brewers last night at Miller Park. [let's call it your Circle of Bust.]
The new plan is for Francoeur to listen exclusively to Manuel and hitting coach Howard Johnson. [...he said in a text message to Rudy Jamarillo]. Entering last night, he was in a 20-for-130 (.154) nosedive dating to the Mets’ 20-inning victory in St. Louis on April 17. [those 25 homers his chattering promised seem less likely]
“I listened to three people last year [I kept swinging for the moon at pitch-outs, but I did like to listen to them talking]: Jerry, HoJo and [Gary] Sheffield,” Francoeur said. “I’ve got to listen to HoJo and Jerry, and everybody else, I’m not going to be a [jerk] about it, I’ll take their advice and let it go in one ear and out the other. [So, if you have something to tell me, I'll pretend I'm paying attention].
“Right now I’m up at the plate and I’m thinking about six different things [mmm, taco salads are gooood... I wonder what they're doing in Atlanta right now...my smile hurts, maybe I'll give it the day off], and you can’t hit doing that.” [or anything. you can't hit doing anything, this is my conclusion.]
“I’ve never been a guy to worry about my average,” Francoeur said. [no sh*t Sherlock] “It will be there at the end, regardless — .260 or .270 or whatever. [I'm betting on "whatever"]
“But what’s [ticked] me off the last few weeks is I’m not driving the ball. That’s what frustrates me.” [That, and the way I suck at baseball]
The road back, he said, starts with simplicity. He believes that listening to Manuel and Johnson exclusively will unclutter his mind. [Are two rocks banging against each other called "clutter?"]
“You’ve got 10 different things going through your head and half of them are probably contradicting each other,” [You said it was six things just one paragraph ago. I guess "taco salad" mutated into Taco and Salad] Francoeur said. “Last year I got in such a great routine and I’ve got to get back to that.” [Yeah, boy, get back to last year's routine, Jeff. See you in the funny papers].

Teheran tore it up AGAIN! The guy is dominating the way Hanson was dominating the minors.
May 31st, 2010 at 7:19 pm
McOut – I call him the Jimmy Hat. But these days, I’ll call Troy whatever he likes (except for “nimble”).
GO BRAVES!!! FIRST PLACE!!!
May 31st, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Julio Teheran’s stat line since being promoted to High A Ball: 2-0, 0.43 ERA, 21 IP, 1 ER on a HR, 14 H, 28 K, and 4 BB. He turned 19 in January! They must have no hitting on that team because Delgado is 2-4 with a 2.62 ERA in 11 starts. An article on fox sports Braves page mentions that Delgado could find himself in Atlanta by next year. My guess would be that Teheran won’t be far behind. My favorite part of the Delgado story is that the Mets offered him twice as much as the Braves, but he still signed with the Braves because he wanted to wear the tomahawk on his chest. AWESOME!
Bub, thanks for that Frenchy bit. Pretty funny. Frenchy is a moron. Too many hits to the head playing football. My favorites were “Last year I got in such a great routine”. Really Frenchy, when? and your call on the “whatever” for his batting average. I would bet on the whatever, too. That guy is McOut bad. I wonder if he hits as well as a pitching staff too? We probably should of seen the McOut struggles coming when he only got 1 hit off Spring Training pitching.

The Jimmy Hat: Wow, that is right there with Hamburglar. Was Hamburglar a Hammy or Curt creation?
May 31st, 2010 at 7:36 pm
[That, and the way I suck at baseball.]. Hil-freakin-larious!
May 31st, 2010 at 8:09 pm
I’m sure you’ve seen or heard the stat by now, but it bears repeating: Braves have not been in 1st place later than June 1 since 2005!!!!! I am so happy right now. Lots of great posts today. Don’t remember who said it, but I agree that the Braves are riding an uncanny “do no wrong” streak right now and the Phils have got to be pretty deflated adding today’s games to their recent woes. LOVE IT!
Another great post about our offense today with no contribution from Heyward (and in a nod to Hammy from the show last night, nothing from McLouth either) and still being so successful. Some impressive stuff going on with this team right now.
McOut – I bet that Medlen goes back to the pen when JJ returns. Regarding Resop, I bet they are trying to trade him. Doesn’t make much sense to put him back in the bullpen since he’s flourishing in a starting role.
May 31st, 2010 at 8:11 pm
Haven’t had time to listen to the show or read all the posts since. Is tomorrow the day ABT is getting together at the game? I’m going to wednesdays game. Princess, will you be there?
May 31st, 2010 at 8:41 pm
Steve, I’ve done a little name change to see if it gets my former namesake going. Yeah, I think Medlen to the pen is inevitable. It will be interesting to see what they do with Resop. I know he’s been a dud in the past, but maybe they can get something for him, like a shiny new ball, or a new can of dip for Chipper, or a new tattoo for Moylan. I don’t see how he can fit on the big league roster with a full staff and pen, and they have to do something by the next two weeks.
May 31st, 2010 at 8:49 pm
With Resop back, it just means another option in the outfield. I am also dusting off all of my Resop schtick. Good times.
May 31st, 2010 at 9:02 pm
FIRST PLACE!!!!! Did I mention that I’m absolutely drunk on the success in May?

Game…tomorrow…anybody?
May 31st, 2010 at 9:15 pm
Cledus, yes the coolest of the cool ABTers will be at tomorrow’s game. My entire family will be in the outfield seats for Wednesday’s game. I would love to have a mini meet and greet before the game on Wednesday. Steve, if you’re not too busy can you maybe shoot Tcc my email address? Is that possible? Sorry to be so criptic but you know…there are crazies out there. Tcc, you might have to email Steve@atlantabaseballtalk.com. I think that’s it.
