At least the Phils lost
June 8th, 2010 at 10:11 am
Disappointing for sure. It’s rough to watch this team (any team, really) when the starting pitching is bad. And wow was Lowedemort bad (we were clearly very, very premature in calling him DLowe on the show). I will not be happy with a split in AZ.

Question: Who is, as of this morning, on a regimen of three new medications due to vertebrae rubbing against each other? (a) Brad Penny of the St. Louis Cardinals, (b) Casey Blake of the Los Angeles Dodgers, (c) Mike Sweeney of the Seattle Mariners, or (d) Rambo the pomeranian? (…and yes, technically Rambo is a “what” not a “who”)
June 8th, 2010 at 11:23 am
Is that really how you feel Curt or are you trying to be positive? I don’t ask that sarcastically but seriously. I get it but it feels more like a missed opportunity. The Rev often tries to comfort me with those words and it pisses me off. I know what you guys mean…it’s way better than losing ground but it provides little comfort.
June 8th, 2010 at 11:25 am
Poor Rambo. Glad he’s still kickin.
June 8th, 2010 at 11:29 am
Rambo’s probably going to turn out to be a better patient than any of those guys, anyway. Though meds hidden in chicken sound pretty good to me…
June 8th, 2010 at 12:17 pm
It’s how I feel. Primarily, I want us to win. Secondarily, I want them to lose. Preferably with those things happening simultaneously. But if we are losing, let’s hope they are too. Remember, the last few years when all the teams were scuttling, and we couldn’t make up any ground because we were playing awful too. You’re going to have patches over the season where you don’t play as well, and you can only hope that those coincide with losing streaks by other teams. Not saying we aren’t playing well, but this is a tough road trip and last night was a let down game. It’s good we didn’t lose any ground as a result. If we come home from this still with a 2 game lead, I’ll be happy.
June 8th, 2010 at 1:13 pm
Curt being positive. Bub being positive. This is a crazy. I agree with Curt, though, that getting home to a day off with a 2 game lead would be a success. I am worried about all of our hitters and their hurt hands, though. We could use a couple more Omar Infantes right now. The Phillies have a pretty tough rest of the month too. They play @ Bos and NYY and they have to host the Twins. The way Philly is playing, they could easily lose all of those series They also get Toronto, playing really well, and then the Reds, who are legit. They get to play CLE in there, we play the Royals. They start play a series with FLA today. The Mets are now 2.5 back.
June 8th, 2010 at 1:21 pm
Of the three- Braves, Mets, Phillies- the Mets have the easier schedule this month, again. They play the Orioles and Indians in interleague play. I apologize if I made anyone dumber for having to read through my last post. Sometimes English me no do good. I vow to proof read more in the future.

Nate – I am VERY worried about Prado and Heyward’s nagging injuries. Not to state the obvious, but it becomes April all over again if those guys slump for a prolonged period.
I’m with Curt on the game last night. I can’t argue it was a missed opportunity. It was. But better that the Phils lose. It’s about time we were on top not losing ground even when we take care of business.
Mara – did you see that Heyward is now 2nd in OF All-Star voting. Your wish is not coming true it seems.
June 8th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
I want more. I know I should be happy and enjoy being in first but 2 games doesn’t feel safe. Philly won’t always struggle. But since Bub says we’re going 6-1 the loss is behind us and we’re all going to have a happy week!
June 8th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
Steve, I’m voting for every Phillies player on the ballot.
June 8th, 2010 at 5:07 pm
Saito’s leg hurts.
JJ’s leg hurts.
JJ’s arm might still hurt.
McCann’s eye.
Chipper’s _______
Heyward’s thumb.
Prado’s hand.
I feel like Ed Harris in Apollo 13: “Let’s look at these things from a… from a standpoint of status. What have we got on that spacecraft that’s good?”
Glaus, Infante, Escobar, and Hinske. Those are our healthy offensive weapons.
The offensive’s wounds in order from least likely to make them unproductive, to most likely to make them unproductive:
Prado, who seems in pain, but productive.
McCann, who’s problem seems intermittent enough to allow some hits.
Chipper, should come out of this problem soon, but… another one always lurks.
Heyward who seems not only unable to produce at all, but is apparently season-threatening in length of injury and hits very high in the line up.
Ugh. Keep our heads up, I guess. But we might get swept by the Twins and/ or Rays if we don’t get some relief. I cursed us with that 6-1 madness.
I want to see this headline, which would be appropriate:
Chipper Jones Pronounced Injury Free, Listed as Day to Day.
Go Braves!
June 8th, 2010 at 5:15 pm
I forgot McLouth’s toe, but… that’s sort of like forgetting about a blown light bulb on the Titanic.
June 8th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
Bub, I like the Apollo 13 comparison and quote. We also found out that Christian Martinez is better than Chavez, so that’s a plus to take away from last night’s game. I hate to say it, but Prado seems like a guy who could use a day off. At a certain point, you have to protect these athletes from themselves. Prado’s desire to play no matter what reminds me of a dog who will chase a tennis ball until he literally drops. The problem is that even when those guys are hurt they’re better than half the team. Chipper has to man up now. This team needs him to play and play well. That way Omar can fill in for Prado on occasion, and he can play left and let Hinske or Cabrera play RF. Jason Heyward needs days off every once in a while, too. He’s had like 1.

I went to a store called Tiger Pride Bama Fever today and spent 10 full minutes explaining to my almost 5 year old that the Crimson A did NOT mean Go Braves. Poor fella’s so confused. We got him straightened out and now he’s wearing his orange and blue “War Eagle” shirt.
All I know is I want to win.
June 8th, 2010 at 5:45 pm
That’s pure child abuse, Mara. Not to mention a fashion sin. Who could pick that blue and orange mess over the Crimson? Even when I lived in Auburn and tried to root for them I had to just get the navy blue shirts.
June 8th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
Look atcha talking smack? They also got orange and blue silly bands. We have to go back cause the 5 year old decided he wants the tiger shirt for his birthday.
Really cool interview with D. Ross.

love the clip, Mara.
June 8th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
If the Braves lose again tonight I’m changing my name.
June 8th, 2010 at 6:18 pm
Infante 4 Heyward 9 Jones 5 McCann 2 Glaus 3 Hinske 7 Escobar 6 Cabrera 8 Medlen
McSucks still riding the pine. Prado with a day off. Their starting pitcher has a 5.33 ERA. I still think we can take em.
June 8th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
Why not put McLouth on the DL and send him to the minors for a rehab assignment? They did it with KJ last year.
June 8th, 2010 at 7:41 pm
How’s Schafer doing?
June 8th, 2010 at 7:52 pm
Did y’all know the Nats called up a pitcher? He sucks though. Pitches like a Grandma.
June 8th, 2010 at 7:55 pm
Schafer: He’s played in 78AB, .218 AVG, 3 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 5 BB, 20 K, 4 SB
Better News:
According to the Braves Minor League site, Arodys Vizcaino has not allowed an earned run in 33 1/3 IP. His numbers are really good. With him and the other pitching prospects, I can see why the Braves have been drafting more hitters in the opening rounds of the draft this year.
