Scott, great to have you. Hope to hear you more often. You add a lot.
Good show.
I don’t know why I can’t get my mood straight toward the Braves. They are winning series after series again. And this time even winning 4-gamers instead of splitting, and that’s not easy. Won their last two series on the road, albeit to the Cubs and Houston. But I just keep waiting for the roof to cave in.
It’s so weird. My hope meter, after a 5-2 week, has dropped. But I am proud of the team.
Postseason hope meter: 8
Division crown hope meter: 3
One thing I am so excited about I can’t stand it: Mike Minor. His face when he gave up the 2 run homer today, was beyond his years. When I saw his expression, I was like, this isn’t going to be a big deal. He’s not going to be shaken by that at all. And he wasn’t. I love this kid, and love having a lefty in there.
I’m not saying he’s going to be dominant. But I think he’s going to be extremely valuable and solid for a long time. And I think he’ll be the best 5th starter in baseball next year.
Foul on swapping KK for Lowe. Derek Lowe is growing on me. The value we’re getting out of the three youngsters goes a long way towards softening the blow of 15 million spent on a .500 pitcher.
I’m a little concerned that JJ’s and Hanson’s velocity were both down in Chicago, followed by Minor’s being normal, or even up. Watching with fingers crossed both of their next starts.

Great show! I agree about Lee’s bat waking up. How terrible to play against the Cubs in front of that faithful crowd and then on Lou’s last day. I cannot imagine how difficult. I missed the Chipper interview. I’m gonna have to try and track it down. Sounds very interesting.
As far as the errors go…a lot of adjustments have been made to the infield. Could that have anything to do with it? Every guy plays a little differently right? Covers the bag a bit differently maybe.
Finally, WHO KNEW Minor would be so spectacular? I mean that guy slipped under the radar didn’t he. I don’t know that I even heard his name mentioned until he was brought up. We should try to find somebody who will keep up with these guys in the minor’s to let us know who’s coming up…who looks good…who we should NEVER trade. Just saying…
My post season hope meter is 8 until I watch Phillies highlights. Them I’m a 7. Curt, I cannot believe your 3 and 3 prediction! Where’s the love?

Okay, gonna channel all my willpower into one spot and skip tonight’s game so I can watch the condensed game tomorrow without knowing who won.
That’s the way it’s gotta be to start the semester.
I’ve only ever made it once before, to the condensed game without knowing the score (hey, that rhymed…), and it was the most exciting 15 minutes of my sports life. My heart was pounding with each at bat.
If you don’t know what it is, mlb.com gives you the concluding pitch of every at bat in the game, and that’s all you get. So if it’s a strike out, you get strike 3. A walk, you get ball four. A homer, you get a homer. It’s baseball so fast I almost had a heart attack.
But it’s got to be…. GOT TO BE… the baseball for Bub starting tomorrow. This literary criticism bidness is no joke. Taking my advisor as an instructor, gulp.
If you’re the prayin’ kind, pray that I make it. Braves obsession can cause serious spiraling.
Sigh, I wanna listen to the game tonight.

I thought tonight was the night you were trying to stay up all night? Maybe tomorrow should be the night you should start only watching the condensed game and tonight should be the “party to end the summer of Bub” night. My kid has Pneumonia and I’ve been clung to and snorted on all day. I deserve an ABT friend on the board tonight. Am I helping?

I was anticipating a lot hearing a lot of optimism on the show this week!
Personally I’m feeling really good about the braves right now, 6-0 come on! =P (maybe a bit too optimistic but we are much better than the Rockies/ Marlins)
- I feel we’ve got the best pitching in baseball our bullpen looks so good and the starting pitching has been just unbelievably good this year (especially finally not having KK in there!)
- The batting has had me worried all year, but look at the line up now Omar is in there every day Prodo is back and we’ve got Lee rather than Gloss! that’s huge
where are the week spots?? there are none Mccann is hitting very well lately seems like he’s got the eyes under control
maybe we’re lacking a bit in Left and Center but we cant expect to have an all star caliber player in every position although we are close now
-and a very strong bench
Love listing to the show every week guys keep it up! =)

Welcome Jimbo! I’m glad you think Mac’s hitting well. I was a little concerned about him the last couple games. Hasn’t been able to get the ball outta the infield. However, I tend to be a bit short sighted and am willing to be wrong.
I don’t so much like the whole 8:40 start time.
August 23rd, 2010 at 7:55 pm
Welcome, Jimbo. Glad to have you.
Where’s Cledus, anybody know?
Mara, I had to stay up LAST night b/c one of my text books was in low supply and I had to beat the crowd to the bookstore at 8am. So, I’m just about to drift off.
Go Braves!!!
August 23rd, 2010 at 8:18 pm
Alright looking at Mac’s stats looks like I may have been wrong :/ haha
he had a good July not so much this month

Wake up BUB! Steve, can ABT invest in a shocking device that shocks the wearer anytime I end up talking to myself on the board? Like yesterday (not that I’m mad cause ya know I know there are lives to be lived). Everyone can take a shift. Hey…everyone can be assigned a series. Hammy should be given double time since he NEVER comments on the board.
Where IS Cledus? If I kept emails I would know his address but I delete everything.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:13 pm
haha! That was hilarious! Bub, I sure hope the condensed game shows you Gonzo’s “have a seat” play in the top of the second.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:28 pm
Astros up 3-2 going to the 9th. Phils have bottom of order due up
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:45 pm
Stros scored 2 in the 8th and held on to win 3-2
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Hi Jimbo! Welcome to the board.
I just see the Astros win as Huddy gives up the homer. Ugh. He has trouble in COL. C’mon boys!
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:25 pm
If Prado can hit a 2 run home run with a still healing pinkie you would think Ankiel, Gonzo and Lee can get a hit or two. Good at bats this game…surely they will start paying off. Go Astros!
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:27 pm
Curses on Todd Helton.
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:39 pm
I was just about to comment how I wish Ankiel would start hitting the ball! WAHOO!!!
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:59 pm
Was really wanting a big hit from D Lee right there.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:02 pm
bat was just ripped from Mac’s hands.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:02 pm
Two terrible strike calls. Anybody else worry when Prado grimaces every time he hits the ball?
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:07 pm
He said in an interview that the pinky bothers him on a number of his swings
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:07 pm
Huge hit from the Gonz
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:08 pm
Let’s keep Gonzo. I think I like him.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:12 pm
Why couldn’t Ankiel have homered there? Curt, does Prado’s pain worry you?
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:12 pm
Ah, the neck high fastball. Ankiel’s kryptonite.
