Show #123: Our Interview with David O’Brien of the AJC
DOB talks about it all: the late inning magic, Chipper’s injury, the Yunel trade, KK, the starting pitching and much, much more.
DOB talks about it all: the late inning magic, Chipper’s injury, the Yunel trade, KK, the starting pitching and much, much more.
August 30th, 2010 at 12:44 am
I can’t stop watching the replay of McCann’s homer and, especially, the home plate celebration. It’s interesting, after hearing DOB talk about Hinske and his leadership on the team, there he is, front and center at home plate, the first one to start jumping up and down.
August 30th, 2010 at 6:05 am
I needed that comeback. For some reason, it boosted my hope meter much more than the blowout on the previous night.
August 30th, 2010 at 10:03 am
Great podcast boys. Best of the year. You should have DOB on more often. He always sounds like he’s hyped up on about a pot of coffee. Man, that guy can talk. And knows the Braves as well as any writer. I’d like a ringside seat if he and Smoltz go mano a mano on any subject.
And great stuff about the Braves clubhouse chumminess. Hinske is built like a Mac truck. Whatever he says, I follow. How many WS has he been to? Glad to hear that someone is willing to fill that leadership void.
August 30th, 2010 at 11:15 am
Runnin – thanks for the kind words. It was a fun show to do.
Danny – I’m with you. That win heartened me so much yesterday. Hopefully to be fortified with a decisive win tonight.
August 30th, 2010 at 12:35 pm
It’s amazing how much a few good swings of the bat can completely rectify a horrible week’s worth of bad swings (and defense, and pitching, and managing, etc.)
Isn’t it exciting just to be relevant again, much less still in first place?! I know that we have blown some big games, but considering our injuries and our division, every day in first place is an accomplishment.
August 30th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
Who’s this Ham guy? Anyway, my highschool boyfriend rear-ended my mom one time. It was smart of you to enter a legally binding relationship first. Sure hope DOB’s Lee predictions are on target. Steve, coffee date cancelled so I’ll get to listen to the interview. I know…I’m your favorite. Just don’t tell Bub. He’ll cry.
August 30th, 2010 at 2:24 pm
Will be at The Ted tonight after a day away…but not my usual play-by-play self. Go Braves!!
August 30th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
Oh sad. Why no play by play?
August 30th, 2010 at 3:52 pm
Mara – I had obligations. Sorry. i am back. I’ll write more. I promise.
August 30th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
Ham had in-laws to cripple
August 30th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
Good show, guys. It is really fun to listen to DOB talk about the Braves. Two of my favorites have been this one and the Spring Training show when y’all had him on.
My playoff hope meter is about an 8. I honestly think both the Braves and Phillies will make the playoffs. I just hope we win our division and get home filed advantage because our team is not so good on the road. Still a lot of baseball left.
Does anyone know who’s pitching Thursday? I think it’s Huddy, but I’m not sure.
August 30th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
Holy crap! Steve’s so awesome!
August 30th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
Ooo…I’m liking Richard’s camera. How about it ABT? You guys need a podcast video. Or do you guys have faces for radio?
August 30th, 2010 at 5:24 pm
Nicely done!!!
August 30th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
I may have changed my min on the video. Now it’s kinda creeping me out. Pretty sure Richard just winked at me.
August 30th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
Hammy – so, the cool, sweet people my boyfriend’s parents are today…doesn’t stay forever?? Crumb.
August 30th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
Huddy IS Thursday, Nate. The friend I’m taking called me specifically today all excited about it.
August 30th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Awesome. I’ll be there. I love watching Hudson pitch live. He reminds me of a couple of guys we used to have back in the 90′s.
August 30th, 2010 at 7:03 pm
ESPN showed only 2 Venezuelans in their pre-game, Brave montage. I give them a 5 out of 10 because a shot of Martin was not in it. The stadium looks kinda empty…
August 30th, 2010 at 7:14 pm
Stadium looks WAY empty. Embarrassing. They didn’t mention Prado?
August 30th, 2010 at 7:21 pm
Proud of our boy, Steve. He made all of look professional. Now let’s see if JJ can follow suit. Getting out of this inning would be a good start.
August 30th, 2010 at 7:22 pm
all of “us” that is.
Or all of America.
August 30th, 2010 at 7:24 pm
Mara, he didn’t have a photo or video clip in the montage. I was disappointed.
August 30th, 2010 at 7:25 pm
It’s time for us to start playing Daddy in this division. The Braves are just better.
August 30th, 2010 at 7:27 pm
Settin’ the table. I like it.
August 30th, 2010 at 7:43 pm
That took a horrible hop at the last instant. Tough luck.
August 30th, 2010 at 8:00 pm
Jason hit that ball really, really HARD.
August 30th, 2010 at 8:00 pm
Heyward absolutely crushed it. I get an extra little perverse thrill when Frenchy watches, helpless, as a Heyward homer sails over his headd.
August 30th, 2010 at 8:02 pm
Francouer just got an up close look at why he lost his job…
August 30th, 2010 at 8:03 pm
Wow, Steve, same channel.
August 30th, 2010 at 8:04 pm
Hi folks. Pleasure doing the interview with the fellas. Just wanted to correct myself, when I mentioned Dan Kolb, I meant to say Bob Wickman. My apologies to Kolb, in case this ever got back to him.
It was Wickman who was thrown under the bus by teammates after he got released. Kolb was actually a good guy, just didn’t have a closer mentality. But Wickman?
Uh, well….
August 30th, 2010 at 8:26 pm
DOB – thanks for chiming in and setting the record straight.
Nice to see JJ settle down there, by the way.
August 30th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
It would be nice if Heyward got his power stroke back
August 30th, 2010 at 9:25 pm
How good does a run against Acosta feel?
August 30th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
I like Brian McCann
August 30th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Double blast…had I known DOB was gonna grace us with his virtual presence I would have asked him how awesome he thinks the Avett Brothers are. On a scale from 1 to 1000. I bet he’d say 999.
In other news…J-Hey is boosting my hope meter.
August 30th, 2010 at 10:16 pm
To check out the radio appearance from this afternoon, go to http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/9254026, and scroll to the 1:13:11 mark.
August 30th, 2010 at 10:24 pm
Poetry…poor Frenchy.
Seriously, Steve, nice job today.
August 30th, 2010 at 10:49 pm
Mara – thanks, I appreciate it.
Great win tonight. Beating up on an inferior pitcher and team like we should. And Heyward and Mac continue to heat up. Ah, what a few days and wins can do.
August 30th, 2010 at 11:17 pm
The Phils are hitless through 5. Losing 2 – 0. C’mon Dodgers.
MLB Network just did a live look in on the Nats/Marlins game in Florida. My God, there are about 8 people in that stadium tonight. Just crazy.
August 30th, 2010 at 11:33 pm
Braves are 17-11 this month. .607 winning percentage. Who knew?
August 30th, 2010 at 11:43 pm
Where you been Alicious?
August 31st, 2010 at 12:58 am
Schooooool. I can count in Babylonian and Egyptian, yo. If anyone asks you who the hell would base a number system on 60, the answer is the Babylonians would. No wonder that whole tower thing failed.
Speaking of failed, Halladay loozed.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:40 am
3 games up. That jump from 2 to 3 feels much more comfortable. And gotta love Halladay taking a loss. And Kendrick is up next for the Phils, which is also hopeful.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:40 am
I can’t believe the Phillies didn’t score. What is going on with them?
August 31st, 2010 at 10:45 am
Howard can’t hit since returning from the DL. Ditto for Utley. Victorino is the only one hitting right now. For all the concern we have about our offense, it certainly has more productive hitters right now than Philly.
August 31st, 2010 at 10:54 am
Watching “Quick Pitch” on MLB and laughing at Meds. Did anybody else see his little dance after J-Hey’s hay maker over the RF wall? He did a little robot dance to the stadium music as Heyward runs the bases. Another reminder of the fun this team is having. The guys were watching him like he just lost a bet.
August 31st, 2010 at 12:48 pm
Last night’s game was indeed poorly attended…and indeed great. I’ll be back there tonight, this time thumbs at the ready with ridiculous commentary. Yes – my thanks added to DOB for both the interview time and for popping up here in comments. I’ll try to watch my language.
August 31st, 2010 at 3:12 pm
Today’s lineup (7:10 Peachtree TV): Infante 4 Heyward 9 Prado 5 Lee 3 Diaz 7 Gonzalez 6 Cabrera 8 Ross 2 Minor 1
August 31st, 2010 at 3:41 pm
I’m here at the ballpark with a press pass today. There’s a stage set up behind the pitcher’s mound. I’ll try to find out what it’s about. I see Carroll Rogers here in the press box – no DOB on the beat today.
Heading down to the clubhouse. More later here and on Twitter throughout the day and during the game.
August 31st, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Steve, you’re such a rock star.
August 31st, 2010 at 4:10 pm
Agreed, Nate. Steve has it all.
August 31st, 2010 at 4:25 pm
The stage was for team picture.
August 31st, 2010 at 4:28 pm
Lots of high fives and fist bumps for both McLouth and Glaus here today.
August 31st, 2010 at 4:44 pm
Alan (my Usher) has been saying for the past few days that Glaus will be the pivotal guy for the team going to the playoffs. Each time he says it, I blink, try to keep a straight face, then burst out laughing. My Glaus ceiling is low, but I don’t know what Alan knows that we don’t.
August 31st, 2010 at 5:03 pm
Ah, picture day. My old nemesis.
August 31st, 2010 at 5:48 pm
Right, Curt – I forgot about that. And it sure only made for 15 total minutes in the clubhouse.
August 31st, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Blast picture day.
August 31st, 2010 at 6:18 pm
By the way – DOB is doing the game tonight. Carroll’s here doing support stuff. Apparently, there’s always two AJC people at each home game.
August 31st, 2010 at 6:37 pm
Steve – most important thing to know about Turner Field tonight: it’s Academy Sports and Outdoors Playing Card Night!! (I can’t wait till the ABT Poker Tournament)
August 31st, 2010 at 6:56 pm
Sounds to me like the #Braves are listening seriously to trade offers for Troy Glaus. Not sure if anything will happen before Wed. (Sept. 1)
Why does that make me a little sad? Can’t they trade McLouth instead?
August 31st, 2010 at 7:04 pm
Frenchy batting 4th for the Mets tonight. Code for: Mets have A LOT of injuries.
August 31st, 2010 at 7:05 pm
Steve – my social secretary reports you came by…
August 31st, 2010 at 7:27 pm
Anne – it’s true. I’ll come down a little later to say hi.
August 31st, 2010 at 7:31 pm
I’m sitting behind a guy wearing a MLB.com lanyard who is clearly the person inputting all of the pitch locations, hits, outs, etc. that turns into the information we see on MLB.com’s Gameday. I can’t explain why, but I’m really psyched about it.
August 31st, 2010 at 7:36 pm
Geek! (no, really – that’s cool!)
August 31st, 2010 at 7:38 pm
No, really – geek
August 31st, 2010 at 8:06 pm
I’m jealous of you two roaming around the Ted without me.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:07 pm
I’m headed up nearer to Alan after this inning, because A Large Object chose to crowd next to me.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:13 pm
Anne – I’m headed down at the end of the 4th.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:35 pm
Minor making me nervous.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:39 pm
I actually thought it would end up worse than just 2 runs.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:43 pm
Steve will tell you: it’s all his fault.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:43 pm
Does that pitcher know who Nate is?
August 31st, 2010 at 8:46 pm
Heyward makes everything better.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:47 pm
Mets…
August 31st, 2010 at 8:48 pm
Mara, your #74 – very funny.
I’m not to visit Anne anymore. During the visit, the Mets score two. Back in the press box, the Braves get them back. Clearly, it was ALL her fault. But, I’ll be a gentlemen, take the high road and say that is was only MOSTLY her fault.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:54 pm
Snitker should have sent Heyward on Prado’s single. He should not have sent Prado on the Gonz’s single. Ugh.
August 31st, 2010 at 8:57 pm
Why is Niese still pitching?
August 31st, 2010 at 9:00 pm
Steve, How does the press box NOT go crazy after a GRAND SLAM!!!! Do they golf clap or anything?
August 31st, 2010 at 9:02 pm
Wahoo! I love beating up on the Mets!!!
August 31st, 2010 at 9:05 pm
I know Mara, it’s weird. There’s really no reaction what so ever.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:05 pm
Ach…Nate in CF equals at least a run or two.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:07 pm
Steve, I will pay you a brand new ABT t-shirt if you will throw your hands up in the air and perform a silent scream the next time the Braves get a hit.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:07 pm
Steve – is there a dress code for the press box? Like, collared shirt, no jeans…stuff like that?
August 31st, 2010 at 9:08 pm
Go Dodgers!
August 31st, 2010 at 9:25 pm
“Mara” you couldn’t see it, But Steve got the Press Box to hold hands, sway, and sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame. Mesmerizing.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:33 pm
Good job Steve…so proud.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Wow . . . it’s good to have McOut back.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Shout-out for the Mets first base coach Razor Shines. He’s no Rusty Kuntz, then again…who is?
August 31st, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Mara, there doesn’t seem to be a dress code. It runs from mostly golf shirt and khakis or jeans to a little nicer. But there’s a lot of shirts in need of an iron in here.
August 31st, 2010 at 9:52 pm
Alan tells me that 10/2, aka Bobby Cox Appreciation Night, is sold out AND they have a plan in place for 500 SRO tix to be available day-of. A nice send-off, I think.
August 31st, 2010 at 10:00 pm
Another heartening win, folks. Heyward look unstoppable again. And Derrek Lee looks like he’s starting to catch up to fast balls.
August 31st, 2010 at 11:01 pm
Thanks for nothing Dodgers.
August 31st, 2010 at 11:12 pm
Freddie Freeman is heading down 85 as we speak
August 31st, 2010 at 11:13 pm
Braves have allowed the fewest runs in the NL East. By 21!
And scored the most runs in the NL East. By 36!!
… and have the best run differential. By 61!!!
It’s almost as if they’re good.
August 31st, 2010 at 11:14 pm
Freeman get called up, Curt?
August 31st, 2010 at 11:35 pm
Y yes Bub…he did. I used my manly voice while typing that.
August 31st, 2010 at 11:37 pm
You know if we play the Rangers in the post season Frenchy’ll kill us
September 1st, 2010 at 6:39 am
With his 0-2 last night, McOut’s average is now down to .166. Wouldn’t it have been better to call up another outfielder who actually hits. Now we have McOut and Ankiel. Together they almost make a whole baseball player. Now we will see puzzling moves like putting in McLouth instead of Ankiel for defensive purposes., when we all know by now that Ankiel is much better than McOut at CF and Baseball in general. In spite of the third coming of McOut, last night was a very “heartening win”, as V-I-Steve pointed out.
September 1st, 2010 at 6:48 am
Steve, did you get any insider info on Moylan’s shoulder or Lowe’s elbow? I don’t want Bobby doing to Venter’s shoulder what he has done to Moylan’s shoulder. I mean, doesn’t a shoulder injury on a pitcher scream overuse. I find this troubling for Moylan because he started pitching relatively late in his career. I think he originally came over as a SS before being converted to a reliever. Wasn’t 2007 his first professional season as a pitcher? When I think of shoulder injuries on pitchers I think of guys like Smoltz who throw really hard and pitch forever, not a guy who has only been coming out of the bullpen for a few years.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:31 am
He was a pitcher in the WBC, which is where he was scouted by the Braves and eventually signed. So as far back as that, he was a reliever. That was 2006. You have to figure to make the Australia team as a reliever he had to have been doing it for some period of time before that.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:50 am
nice job steve…just got around to listening.
EAT IT mets..
thats all today.
September 1st, 2010 at 9:38 am
#99 – “Mara” – go wash your mouth out with soap RIGHT THIS INSTANT!
September 1st, 2010 at 11:24 am
Yes Ma’am. Actually I’m just trying to confuse the baseball gods.
September 1st, 2010 at 12:54 pm
Deadspin still has up the hysterical prank LaRoche played on fellow ex-#Brave Kelly Johnson in Arizona http://bit.ly/b4LQmc
Funny.
September 1st, 2010 at 1:08 pm
#106 – NICE. Like “The Outfield” song isn’t lame enough… Too bad April Fool’s is just pre-season and they can’t do that at some point in late-season to everybody, every year.
September 1st, 2010 at 2:20 pm
Nate, re your #101 – I don’t have anything about Lowe that wasn’t reported in the AJC or braves.com. I was standing at Lowe’s locker during his impromptu press conference about it where he seemed frustrated/exasperated about the whole thing. Not in a whiny or diva-ish way. Just like a guy who wants to be able to perform and help the team but is limited because of this elbow issue.
And I didn’t even see Moylan or hear anyone talking about him.
September 1st, 2010 at 2:31 pm
Braves lineup: 1. Infante SS, 2. Heyward RF, 3. Prado 3B, 4. McCann C, 5. Hinske LF, 6. Freeman 1B, 7. Conrad 2B, 8. Ankiel CF, 9. Hanson P
September 1st, 2010 at 2:38 pm
They can take our lives, but they’ll never take our Freeman
September 1st, 2010 at 3:09 pm
Curt, Bub is going to wet his pants when he sees that. Good one!
September 1st, 2010 at 3:32 pm
Damn! How extra exciting is tonight’s game all of the sudden with Freeman getting the start?
September 1st, 2010 at 6:10 pm
Let Freeman ring!
(Curt’s was better – for a change.)
September 1st, 2010 at 6:23 pm
Phillies won 5-1 today.
September 1st, 2010 at 6:34 pm
This is a steal…fo’ shizzle!

September 1st, 2010 at 8:14 pm
Frederick’s STARTING?
DAMN you, Lit Crit! Looks like I didn’t miss him getting a hit just yet. How’s he looked at the plate?
September 1st, 2010 at 8:18 pm
I understand that it’s the Mets and all, but this offense looks like it can do something.
Mara – thanks for the link.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:19 pm
Did I miss any gossip? I mean, is Freeman starting some kind of thing? Two slugging 1B and we’re starting the rookie? I love it, but it’s surprising. What an aggressive year for Wren and Bobby: the moves “against” Nate, KK, and Glaus. Starting Heyward out of the gate. Mike Minor’s promotion. It’s Opposite World.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:19 pm
Bub – he’s ripped two hard shots (up the middle and to 3rd) that they made good plays on. But he’s clearly not overmatched in any way.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:21 pm
Thanks, Steve. I’m giddy. Does he look good at the bag?
September 1st, 2010 at 8:23 pm
Dangit.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:38 pm
Oh yea Bub…he looks VERY good at the plate.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:40 pm
Bub – it’s been pretty basic stuff for him at 1st tonight. No issues to speak of.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:47 pm
Bub is haaaaappy.
Way to go, Freddie. Love it.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:48 pm
Actually Bub, he looks 12 but that out at 1st just now was pretty sweet.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:59 pm
Bizarro World, we call it
September 1st, 2010 at 9:11 pm
A belated take-back: I swore Heyward was too hurt to keep playing. He obviously wasn’t. Guess I don’t know everything. Just most things.
September 1st, 2010 at 9:35 pm
Did anyone hear Freddy’s walk up music? Just curious.
September 1st, 2010 at 9:43 pm
I haven’t heard his music. I vote for some Right Said Fred
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39YUXIKrOFk
Too sexy for my bat, whatcha think about that?
September 1st, 2010 at 9:43 pm
Good job boys! Sweep tomorrow!
September 1st, 2010 at 9:54 pm
HAH! You should tell @bravesorganist to play it when an opposing “Fred, Freddy, etc.” comes up to bat.
September 1st, 2010 at 10:52 pm
Freeman’s At-Bat song was what my mom would call “thug music.” I’ve heard it, but can’t place it. GREAT game.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:04 am
Morgan’s an a$$. Gabby Sanchez awesome…love the clothesline. That is all.
September 2nd, 2010 at 7:19 pm
The braves defense lately is just infuriating my god
September 2nd, 2010 at 7:44 pm
Really baseball gods…really?
#Rays closer Rafael Soriano named Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month for August – 0.84 ERA/10 saves http://is.gd/eS9Uq
September 2nd, 2010 at 8:21 pm
I guess that’s what happens when he doesn’t get overworked pitching in blowout games.
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:23 pm
I want to know who Jimbo’s god is. Waiting for him to start hurling lightning bolts at our middle infield
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:43 pm
Freaking Phils have tied that game up
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:45 pm
Well did, Curt. Well did.
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:46 pm
Phils go ahead. Can we ship a pitcher to the Rockies for this inning?
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:51 pm
Can we ship a couple outs to Denver? 8 hits in the inning so far and only 1 out.
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:56 pm
Heh. Grand slam Philly. 9 run inning.
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Yuck. Sigh, 2 game lead and going on the road.
September 2nd, 2010 at 10:01 pm
Brother…
Bub, this Braves game tonight reminded me so much of a typical game 1 post season game for the Braves. Our brilliant starter isn’t perfect, Braves give up some unearned runs, can’t get timely hits, and you lose 4-2. So familiar.
Great homestand though. Off to FL
September 2nd, 2010 at 10:05 pm
haha missed putting a comma in my last comment “,my god”
but i bet their defense is infuriating God as well, just disgusting
and FU Phillies
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:04 pm
Oh, Rockies. So close. Blow more chances to win that game.
September 3rd, 2010 at 12:33 pm
If Gabby Sanchez is going to be suspended I wish it would start tonight.
September 3rd, 2010 at 5:04 pm
Braves lineup: 1.Infante 2B, 2.Heyward RF, 3. Prado 3B, 4. Lee 1B, 5. Diaz LF, 6. Gonzalez SS, 7. Ross C, 8. Ankiel CF, 9. Kawakami P
September 3rd, 2010 at 6:21 pm
Good thing i have plans tonight so I dont have to watch KK suck a giant _____
September 3rd, 2010 at 6:32 pm
Jimbo’s turn to sit in a corner. Braves will win tonight by 3 runs.
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:24 pm
Why is KK pitching for the Atlanta Braves????!!!! What did I miss?
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:26 pm
I’m furious. Do we have a pitcher hurt?
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:47 pm
Kawakami was awful in AAA, was he not? Is there an explanation? I mean, I figured we would be in James Parr territory before we went with this guy. I love him as a person, but I’ll be very surprised if he makes it out of the 5th inning.
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:48 pm
Alright… I’m here alone. Back to the books. It’ll be more fun than watching this game.
What a revolting developmink.
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:54 pm
BUB! Come back…:(
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:55 pm
Lowe has a backache.
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:55 pm
I mean shoulder…or elbow. Anywho, he needs to skip a start. I’ve been busy.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:01 pm
That is one ugly baseball field.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:04 pm
Hey, Mara. This is going to get really bad. KK’s got nothing. I don’t know what they could have possibly been thinking? Only 2 runs so far, but very lucky not to be more. There going to go off on him soon.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:07 pm
He struck somebody out? I’d bench that batter…
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:09 pm
“His name is DAAAAAN UGGGGGLAAAAAA”. This inning could get ugly real quick. How’s school Professor?
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:10 pm
Blech.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:12 pm
School is freaking hard. First senior English class and it is no joke. 14, yes four. teen. Essays for Lit. Crit. 10 small. 2 big. And both exams are essay.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:13 pm
I’m not liking the intentional walk so much. Not quite working out like they’d planned.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:17 pm
This game isn’t gonna come down to this or that strategy. This was a bad idea, sending KK out there at this point.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:18 pm
Yikes…after 12 years of changing diapers I don’t think I could write one of the small essays. Good luck with the whole lot. Let’s score some runs!
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:23 pm
Starting Ankiel against a Lefty? Can I ask why?
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:25 pm
Well look at Troy…all grown up.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:26 pm
Maybe Bobby hates Melky.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:26 pm
You can ask but really…what’s the point. Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for this game.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:29 pm
terrible… terrible times 1000.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:32 pm
Quote from Glaus about it being hard to get into rhythm without regular at bats in 10…9…8…7…6…
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:35 pm
Proctor has a 0.00 ERA. Why haven’t we used him more? 8)
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:40 pm
This game sucks.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:52 pm
I hate baseball.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Well, good talking to you. Maybe the boys will get it together. Bad way to start a road trip. Headscratching decision. They really needed to turn their road woes around right here. Just can’t understand what they could have been thinking.
See ya soon.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:59 pm
I hate Bub’s studies.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:58 pm
1 is a very small number.
September 3rd, 2010 at 10:27 pm
KK now 0-8 on the road. Good time to work him back into the rotation.
Oh, and the Miller kid, who we just made look like Sandy Koufax? He’s a bum. First win in a year. Come tomorrow this time we are tied for first.
September 4th, 2010 at 1:49 pm
Do you think the Braves give KK one more start? I kinda doubt it, given Bobby’s very un-Bobby like quote about him after the game last night. “That’s the worst I’ve ever seen him.” I was taken aback by Bobby’s honesty there.
Curt – your #144 is so, so true.
September 4th, 2010 at 4:00 pm
So they have Halladay vs Dave Bush
we have Johnson vs the road version of JJ
September 4th, 2010 at 5:18 pm
Afraid.
September 4th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
#Braves lineup: 1. Infante 2B, 2. Heyward RF, 3. Prado 3B, 4. McCann C, 5. Lee 1B, 6. Cabrera LF, 7.Gonzalez SS, 8. Ankiel CF, 9. Jurrjens P
September 4th, 2010 at 6:53 pm
KK started last night. Ankiel faced a lefty. Are we still in the playoff hunt? Are we 8 games out or something? Oh, Bobby is still our manager… now it makes sense. This is the same guy who thought pitching Lowe after Hudson was a good idea for the second half. How many of Lowe’s starts have we won in the second half? Logic is not in play folks.
September 4th, 2010 at 6:53 pm
I’d be more excited if Lee could get a hit. Ankiel, for that matter
September 4th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
This is the same guy who constantly pitched Maddux and Glavine on back to back days in the playoffs when he had Smoltz to stick between them. There’s a reason we’re 1-14 in the playoffs. Hell, I’m surprised he hasn’t started McOut or Glaus since they’ve been back.
September 4th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
Oh, Curt. Ye of little faith. I ‘ve Bush over Halladay and Jurrjens over Johnson in a lead pipe cinch.
Ahhhh. What a good day. Finished ALL my reading for the WHOLE weekend late last night and today until just now. Turn the computer on and the Braves are leading, the Phils are trailing, the Crimson Tide is kicking ass, and MY JACKSONVILLE STATE GAMECOCKS BEAT OLE MISS BABY!!!!! ON THE ROAD!!! I wonder if we’ll be meeting their bus back on campus. Maybe I’ll get out of the apt. and do something.
September 4th, 2010 at 9:12 pm
Go Cocks
September 4th, 2010 at 9:13 pm
The Braves are not only leading, but JJ (ours, not theirs) is getting done in high fashion on the road. With all the pitching woes this week, seeing JJ have an awesome road start is very welcome.
September 4th, 2010 at 9:24 pm
Phils just scored 2 on a sacrifice fly
September 4th, 2010 at 9:34 pm
boo Phillies. Yeah JJ! Go Braves!!!
September 4th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
That was a great win
September 4th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
Nice win.
September 4th, 2010 at 10:31 pm
Great win, indeed. McCann stated it perfectly in his post-game interview when he called it the biggest win of the year. I have to agree.
So, this really made me laugh. Reading thru DOB’s blog, someone posted the this morning (following a long night, as you can imagine, of KK getting absolutely crucified), this guy wrote, “All of that being said, I think KK filled in nicely for Lowe last night.”
September 4th, 2010 at 10:46 pm
Not to take pleasure in others’ pain but … it’s the Mets, so what the hell?
http://deadspin.com/5629806/omar-minaya-flies-coach-gets-heckled
September 5th, 2010 at 12:00 am
Steve, I almost can’t believe that’s real, but it’s the Mets. It is real. They are really horrible, and their payroll is 136 M. Awesome win tonight. Bub, I saw the end of the Jacksonville State game. Pretty cool. They got that last TD pass on a 4th down. Insane. Then the 2 point conversion. Great win. You must be pretty pumped after that and JJ’s great performance.
September 5th, 2010 at 6:00 am
What is the Braves payroll now?
September 5th, 2010 at 7:28 am
Will, are we including our minor league bench players and our resident Japanese hurler we got just ’cause?
September 5th, 2010 at 9:12 am
Will – the numbers vary, but it’s around 90MM.
September 5th, 2010 at 10:18 am
So they say. More like 83 actually committed to the team.
September 5th, 2010 at 11:59 am
The pressure of HAVING to win every game is exhausting as a fan. I can’t imagine how it feels as a player. Spoke to a Cardinals fan at church today. He has the look of severe disappointment wrapped in misguided hope.
September 5th, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Yikes.
September 5th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
At least score some runs against this clown. Make it a game
September 5th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
Brewers up 3-0 in the 1st
September 5th, 2010 at 1:54 pm
Come on Brew Crew.
September 5th, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Come on Braves
September 5th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
That sac fly by McLouth is the finest thing I’ve seen in a long while.
September 5th, 2010 at 4:04 pm
*finishes essay*
*checks score*
*vomits*
Oh, Minor. Why?
September 5th, 2010 at 4:43 pm
Last time I EVER forgo my Sunday afternoon nap for the sake of the Atlanta Braves.
September 5th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
Sadly, this Pirates series seems ripe for the taking, which means we will be in death matches with them every game.
September 5th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
Sadly, I doubt Morrison will be ready to take on the Phills.
September 5th, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Ill be at the Pittsburgh game tomorrow watchin Tommyboy Hanson!!
September 5th, 2010 at 8:23 pm
Jimbo- that’s cool. Help the boys out.
What a day. We parked at the neighborhood pool down 6 – 0, left it tied at 6 and then I got to watch the painful 10th. Let’s win tomorrow and make today go away.
Reminder – no show tonight. It will be up tomorrow night, same general time frame.
September 5th, 2010 at 10:37 pm
Jimbo, where are you sitting? Could we maybe see you? Im always trying to spot Anne. Sometimes i even get her to wear a silly hat. Nate, remember when you yelled something at a Marlins game and I heard you through the TV mic? Wasn’t that you? One of my fave ABT moments.
September 5th, 2010 at 10:57 pm
Twas me. I got a lot of great looks from the Marlins’ 12 fans for that one.
September 6th, 2010 at 3:38 am
3:30 and i cant get to sleep, look for the really tired fan in the stands thatll be me! haha
but ill be on the first base line (my brother will be wearing a “Hanson” Jersey that I bought, that turned out to be way too big)
and Im gonna do my best to get the tomahawk chop going!
September 6th, 2010 at 8:53 am
Too bad Bub’s too busy. Y’all could have had late night discussions about sleeplessness. That would be awesome to get the tomahawk chop going! May the force be with you.
September 6th, 2010 at 10:51 am
Braves 1. Infante 2B, 2. Heyward RF, 3. Prado 3B, 4. Lee 1B, 5. Diaz LF, 6. Gonzalez SS, 7. Ross C, 8. McLouth CF, 9. Hanson P
Let the foul language begin.
September 6th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
This Burres guy has a career ERA over 6.00. Come on.
September 6th, 2010 at 3:30 pm
Curt, I blame that HR on you. Are we really not gonna score any runs on Chris Resop?
September 6th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Unbelievable. Why do we suck on the road?
September 6th, 2010 at 3:51 pm
Mara, Miss St. versus Auburn on Thursday. Time to renew the vows?
September 6th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Say what did they say about the Pirates pitcher who had to come in and pitch with Prince Fielder already on 2nd Base?
The Meek shall inherit the girth.
September 6th, 2010 at 3:54 pm
Four minutes till I have to get back to Kate Chopin. C’mon, Braves, do something fer me.
September 6th, 2010 at 3:58 pm
The pitch that Gonzalez just swung at was closer to me than it was to him.
September 6th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
Alright, I’ll stick it out through this half of the inning since we’re threatening.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
All up to McLouth now. Text book, here I come. Sigh.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
%^&$!
September 6th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
Alright, well at least I got to grit my teeth for a minute.
Later.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:04 pm
If only Mike Minor could face the Braves…
September 6th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
If only Bobby could manage. I would have rather Ross hit and McCann hit for McLouth. I can’t stand that just because he is up he gets to play. He’s AWFUL.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:13 pm
Not to mention Diaz against a righty in the 8th.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:17 pm
We are terrible on the road.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:19 pm
Deeply disappointed with that effort. Knowing the Phils are getting slapped around. Disgraceful. Shame on Bobby.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:24 pm
So glad he’s done after this year. So glad. Tommy now 9-11 thanks to our garbage offense. He might be contending for a Cy Young if he were on another team. Sad.
September 6th, 2010 at 5:02 pm
And the quality of guys you have lost to this weekend, starting with Andrew Miller. It’s a joke.
September 6th, 2010 at 5:47 pm
The one time a year I want the MSU to lose is when they play Auburn. I’m not half as serious about MSU football as I am about Braves Baseball. And I just like to keep the peace.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:32 pm
as my son and daughter have started saying….. EPIC FAIL
this road bs stops now.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:37 pm
5 is less than 1.
September 6th, 2010 at 10:54 pm
Prado needs an off day. He just told me on our post game wrap up phone call. His pinkie hurts.
