or not

Thought I’d chime in. I leave for Montreal tomorrow…where they’re first in their division! (that was a hilarious joke…in my mind) So, I’ll be out of pocket until next Tuesday. My hope meter is still at 2, just because I can’t give up.
So. Let’s talk about ANOTHER team and ANOTHER manager. Can someone ‘splain me the reason that LaRussa “mixes it up” and doesn’t bat the pitcher last? The pros, the cons…does it depend on the pitcher? I remember hearing he does that a lot, or at least, has done it before. I don’t quite understand the idea behind it.
Mythbusters is on Discovery tonight…just sayin’.

My prediction is that we get 4 more hits tonight and lose 6-3.
LaRussa has stated in the past that he does that because of some math he did about how many times the #9 batter leads off an inning – or something like that.
I think I am going to watch Joe vs. the Volcano for some inspiritation.
“I know he can get the job, but can he do the job.”

Um, 7-3
September 9th, 2010 at 8:37 pm
I just flipped back…how is Nate McLouth up to bat? Never mind…
Curt, it was a typo, clearly. You meant 8-3.
September 9th, 2010 at 8:47 pm
right. Can I say for the umptenth time in the past week and a half, disgraceful. Once again, the Cardinals come into a series with the Braves with their offense in the toilet.
September 9th, 2010 at 8:48 pm
I seriously hate baseball. I’m going to find a new hobby.
September 9th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
Hockey season starts soon. I know this because I thought maybe I could catch a pre-season Montreal Canadiens game…but I’m a coupla weeks early. C’est la vie.
September 9th, 2010 at 9:32 pm
Not that it did us any good with the double play one batter later, but…here’s a phrase you don’t hear every day: “Nate McLouth with his second base hit of the night…”
September 9th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
When the team’s strengths abandon them, it gets really depressing. What a horrible week.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:11 pm
So glad I gave away my tickets for tonight through Tuesday night. I’m a terrible fan…but honestly, give me a reason to hope. Please?!?
September 9th, 2010 at 11:23 pm
It feels like we’re 10 under..my hope meter is stuck on “very gloomy”.
September 10th, 2010 at 12:28 am
Good Grief. Not sure why I even checked the score.

SF, 1 game behind
September 10th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
Mara – the reason to have hope is that this team was in 1st for 90+ days, can hit at times, not too long ago had really dominant starting pitching, the Cards were pretty inept (until last night), and we have the best home record in the majors. Now, I’m not saying this team looks any better than a sub .500 club right now – but they’ve turned it around after rough patches all year. It can happen. We could wake up and be tied for 1st tomorrow.
September 10th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
Nate McLouth is batting 6th tonight. I had to look at the lineup tweet 5 times to make sure I was reading that correctly. Bobby, please don’t second guess yourself on retiring.
September 10th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
McOut (Of Here) just bought himself 25 more starts.
September 10th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Nate McClouth is a hit machine! We should move him to the three hole!
September 10th, 2010 at 8:10 pm
We have to come up with a term for when the sucky player does something exciting so that we temporarily forget that he sucks. And of course Bobby never forgets it….McClouth has done it once – his walkoff homer where afterwards they cleared the dugout… Ankiel did it with a game winning double once….
who else? and what do we call the phenomenon?
September 10th, 2010 at 8:11 pm
Even the blind squirrel, something, something. I’ll take it
September 10th, 2010 at 8:14 pm
How about the ‘Fransisco’
September 10th, 2010 at 8:49 pm
I’m trying Steve…just seems like we’re spiraling the wrong direction.
September 10th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
Meanwhile, Phils are slapping the Mets around.
September 10th, 2010 at 9:27 pm
DANGIT!!! Just when I decide to be ok with losing here comes hope! Prado looked like his old self on that hit.
September 10th, 2010 at 9:54 pm
I will take that inning. That is some good a$$ baseball.
I know I am switching sports here, but I think we should call it the Namath.
