    I agree with Anne.

Leah, have you seen the A. Bros. animated video for “Head Full of Doubt”? I freaking loved it. Best video I’ve seen in a good while.

Also, have you noticed that “I and Love and You” sounds a lot like a 70’s album? I mean, not just the songs themselves, but the sound of the production. I’m sure it was on purpose, especially since the album cover looks 100% like it was ripped out of that decade.

You know, when you consider that 8* teams per year get to the MLB playoffs, Atlanta winning 1 in 14 doesn’t sound quite as failing. I mean, if they’d just won ONE more championship, it would actually be about right, share-wise.

*since ’95, so, for most of Atlanta’s reign, there were 8 per year.

    Curt Says:

2 would have made a world of difference. And back-to-back titles with a beatdown of the Yanks in 96 would have made my life.

    Bubdylan Says:

If they’d have won in ’96, they’d probably have won 4 or 5 total. That was the one that brought the funk.

    Bubdylan Says:

Ouch my soul hurts now. I just looked up the ’96 Series. We outscored the Yankees 16 to 1 in the first two games. In Yankee Stadium.

    What the HELL happened???

That’s the most depressing thing I’ve ever forgotten and then remembered. Should have left that one where my psyche had put it: blocked behind the same Spirit Wall as the Carter presidency and the movie “The Wiz.” Damn Wikipedia.

    Leah Says:

Thanks guys. I thought I’d stop using Mara Wanna. Some studies say it’s bad for you and it also stinks up your house.

Bub, that is a fantastic video. I just love it. Would you be surprised to hear we’re headed to Ashville for the New Year again? Maybe I’ll see Cledus! Also, did you hear the newest slogan for AU ? “War Cam Eagle” Pretty funny. Go Braves!

    Bubdylan Says:

Do you ever meet any cool Thomas Wolfe stories up in Asheville? Any children or grandchildren of the townspeople he portrayed in his stories?

  8. 58
    Leah Says:

Will you hate me forever if I admit to not knowing who that was before I googled him? What if I promise to read your favorite novel?

  9. 59
    Bubdylan Says:

No, it’s not like that. I’d just barely heard of him before this year and I’ve been to Asheville a few times.

The story goes: he wrote stories that were fictional, but biographical in that they covered his young life in Asheville pretty closely. The townspeople in his stories were thinly veiled real citizens of the town and this caused a stir, as he viewed the town with a critical eye.

So I would be curious to know if there’s still any local buzz by direct descendants, etc.

You already read my favorite novel. I require no further pentance. :)

    Bubdylan Says:

Oh, but if you do ever get to read his short story, “The Lost Boy,” it’s very beautiful.

    Curt Says:

Funny, or not so much, I just looked at a game-by-game breakdown of the ’96 series. So much worse than just the Leyritz homes. You’re right Bub, that should have stayed in the vault. God, I’m sick.

I think the one that would have brought 4 or 5 was winning in ’91. Maybe obvious, but that one set the tone for me. The loss in ’98 was the end of it all.

  12. 62
    Curt Says:

Jeff Francoeur will be the first of the so-called “Baby Braves” to play in a World Series.

    Bubdylan Says:

I’ll have to update my Frenchy ballad.

  14. 64
    Curt Says:

Something to do with a Texas twister – vis-a-vis his swinging and missing so much.

  15. 65
    Bubdylan Says:

That’s brilliant. Good for several rhymes too: Mister, Sister, Kissed ‘er, Blister, Missed ‘er… could definitely work out.

  16. 66
    Curt Says:

According to DOB, the Braves were in fact looking at Don Baylor as their new hitting coach, but he has taken the same job with AZ.

    Steve Says:

“That’s the most depressing thing I’ve ever forgotten and then remembered.” I really liked that.

So, I just read this: “They are not a good defensive team. They aren’t a patient team at the plate. They don’t steal bases. They can hit home runs from No. 1 to No. 8 in the order, but otherwise, they aren’t a particularly good offensive team. So, how do they win? They are a tough, gritty team that is all about character, diverse personalities and great starting pitching.” – Tim Kurkjian describing the Giants made the postseason.

I know it’s time to stop the coulda’s/shoulda’s but damn that sounds like the Braves.

  18. 68
    Bubdylan Says:

It does sound like the Braves. Maybe the experience will be enough to push next year’s version a step further. (Anyone notice the Phils are stepping the other way? WS Win, WS Loss, NLCS Loss… next year a first round loss? And then, bye-bye Oswalt & Hello Ryan Howard’s Albatross Years)

  19. 69
    Curt Says:

Hello Braves of the late nineties/aughts

  20. 70
    Bubdylan Says:

Wren’s interview meetings for the Hitting Coach position should consist of three hours solid viewing of Nate McLouth at-bats. First candidate who doesn’t run from the room screaming gets the job.

  21. 71
    Bubdylan Says:

Or, just give it to Jim Presley.

    Hunka Hunka Burning Bullpoops.

  22. 72
    Bubdylan Says:

So, I just joined the video game revolution and bought the $99 PS2 and MLB 10 the Show. My first Chipper Jones at bat and he’s running out a grounder and I’m wincing and curling my toes as he goes across the bag, waiting for Video Chipper to grab his hammy. True story. I might have to play as a different team or I’m gonna have problems.

  23. 73
    Steve Says:

Bub – that’s pretty funny. We recently just got a cheap PS2 and MLB10 The Show as well. It’s pretty great. But how is it that Major League Baseball pronounces our starting 2nd basemen as Martin instead of Marteen. Shameful.

  24. 74
    Bubdylan Says:

I KNOW! I heard that, “Martin Prado.” Awful.

By the way, if you have an old tube tv around, it has a better picture for PS2 than HDTV’s.

  25. 75
    Leah Says:

Where did I put that ABT decoder ring? I’ll just get my 9 year old to translate.
