lol at “yeah, but he (Giles) took a bunch of steroids” in a calm, earnest voice.
Foul on trading Prado for Uggla, but it’s close. We really, REALLY need power. But thank goodness it didn’t come down to that.
Foul on locking up Uggla at that super high price. Fair on 12 X 5. Barely. His 36-year-old season would scare me. Without his power, he’d be yuckville.
Fair on grabbing Uggla even if just for a year. Infante was the same one year.
And if we lose him, we’re back to squares: needing a LF, with a year less of Lowe’s and Chipper’s contracts. A no-brainer move.
Great show! DANNNNNNN UGGGGLLLLAAAAAAA!!!!!
Foul on “Fuggla” though. When he boots it, it should be “Dan Struggla”
November 23rd, 2010 at 2:31 pm
Fuggla is an obvious choice, no doubt. But Dan Struggla is pretty strong.
November 23rd, 2010 at 4:11 pm
We could always call him “Boooooooooooo” it worked for Brooks.
November 23rd, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Kate – very, very funny. But, for the record, if things go so badly in some way for Uggla in 2011 that he’s getting booed at Turner, I will be sticking a big ol’ fork in my eye. Daily.

Dan Struggla is strong to quite strong. Great bat, absolute butcher in the field. Struggla + Chipper + Ground ball pitchers= a lot of errors.

Bill James Homer Projections 2011:
Uggla 31
Heyward 18
McCann 24
Chipper 17
Gonzalez 13
Freeman 16
Prado 12
McLouth 15
Total from starting 8: 146 Homers
Ryan Howard 43
Chase Utley 26
Dom Brown 26
Ruiz 9
Polanco 8
Ibanez 20
Victorino 16
Rollins 15
Total from starting 8: 163
Now, James is usually optimistic, and I’ll believe McLouth is worth 15 homers when pigs fly, but he’s also optimistic on Howard, who I believe will hit around 35 as his epic power takes its first we-pay-him-WHAT slide.
In any case, if Atlanta closes the gap to 17 homers less than Philly (from the starters), considering the ballparks, I think we’ll be neck and neck with the boys from PA.

I’m in the SF Bay Area visiting my mom and the baseball news out here is allllllll about Avery Huff and debates over that being a good move (keeping him) or not.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:58 pm
23 from Dominic Brown? Are they pitching him underhanded next year? I thought his numbers were pretty bad this year. I’ll have to look that up.
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:19 pm
Listening to the show, writing this comment, while cooking traditional Creme Brulee French Toast for the Rev’s fam cause that’s how I roll. First of all, thanks for the HP World commercial. I was wondering about it and appreciated the details so i guess this is the opposite of hate mail.
Prado = heart and soul of our team this year AND last year. Even without Dunn I would give up baseball forever had they traded Meadow.
Steve, how sad the next time ABT gets together for a game I won’t get to cheer, “OH Infante!” You’ll miss that…I know you will.
I’m wondering how much we owe Charlie Manuel for this deal. How much better does Omar’s resume look being an all star?
Would Glaus (as in Gloss…as in high shine) be better off the bench? If his legs aren’t tired could he be our home run hitting pinch hitter?
I hope you don’t have too many listeners who don’t read the board cause Hammy’s desire to spank Steve could be disturbing to some.
Great show! Spring Training seems like a looooooooong time.:(

“Foul on trading Prado for Uggla, but it’s close.” BUT IT’S CLOSE???????
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:22 pm
Yeah Brown hit .210 this year with 2 homers. Far cry from 23, even in limited playing time.
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:56 pm
Curt, I agree about Brown’s numbers, but I’m not putting much stock in his ugly beginning as I am his AAA track record. Same with Freeman, and it looks like Bill James agrees.
I’ve heard it said that the way to utilize Bill James’ numbers is not to compare them to actual outcomes, but to other Bill James numbers for other teams, etc. Don’t know how much truth is in that, but that’s why I put them next to Phillies’ predictions rather than just tossing them out there.

Leah, I love Martin Prado, and I wouldn’t trade him straight up for Dan Uggla, as much as I have cried for Dan Uggla, and that should tell you something.
But yeah, it’s close. That’s as good as I can offer without being a girl fan. 8)
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:31 pm
No way Chipper hits 17 dingers. I bet he doesn’t break 10. I want him to do well, but I don’t see that kind of production.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:59 pm
And 16 from Freeman?!?! We’d really have something if he could approach that. Of course, we have to subtract 12 from the 15 that he projects for Nate.
November 24th, 2010 at 10:04 am
What’s crazier, picking 15 from McTerrible or 17 from Chipper? I can’t decide…
November 24th, 2010 at 3:35 pm
23 for Dom Brown. His best year he hit 23 across Rookie, A and AA. Even playing in that pony league park.
November 24th, 2010 at 8:15 pm
Happy Turkey Day ABT!
November 24th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Happy Thanksgiving, Leah.
Happy Thanksgiving, ABT.
and his name
is Dan
UGGLA!!!!
Man, this team’s gonna be so freaking good.
November 24th, 2010 at 10:47 pm
Hey Bubalicious, how’s that reading assignment coming?
November 24th, 2010 at 11:01 pm
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I hope it’s a great day with family and friends.
I saw HP7 today. It was tremendously good. A very good translation from the book of the desperation and epic life and death tone. I’m already sick about having to wait until next summer for part 2. Has anyone else seen it yet?
November 25th, 2010 at 12:01 am
Happy THanksgiving everyone!
November 25th, 2010 at 12:29 am
Steve, I hope to see it. My daughter loved it and the Rev was lost. He did however mention the dream sequence in the beginning.
November 26th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
Yikes in the second quarter.
November 26th, 2010 at 7:12 pm
Whew. Too close.
