Show #135: Final Business Before Spring
Dan Uggla’s contract extension. One year deals for the arbitration eligible players. And the leading candidate for CF (guess who?).

Hooray! New Baseball talk!

Thanks, Danny. Glad you’re excited. It was a fun show.

Leah! I’m sitting in a coffee shop and “And It Spread” just came on. Felt I had to share.

Good show guys. I’m really liking the middle of our lineup with Chipper, Mac, Uggla, and Heyward. Prado is a beast. Gonzo is decent. Freddie is an unknown. McLouth… Overall, I think our lineup can be the best in the East. JJ for 3 million is an absolute bargain. He just had a weird year. When he’s on he’s pretty damn good. The guy I’m most concerned about is Hanson. He had some really ugly starts last year. I hope he can find some consistency this year and make it deeper in his starts. He and Lowe can really tax the bullpen, especially guys like Moylan, Venters, and EOF. I’m not sold on the older additions to the pen because I really don’t know anything about the guys. It should be a really fun year to watch the Braves. God I hope we beat the Phillies. Go Braves.

Steve, that’s awesome! Did you end up downloading any other songs? Haven’t had a chance to listen to the show but plan on it soon.
January 26th, 2011 at 8:43 am
Leah – I haven’t downloaded anything else yet. Still listening to I and Love and You a bunch. I really dislike Kickdrum Heart, by the way. And it’s become a single here in Atlanta. Soooo many other better songs on the album.
January 26th, 2011 at 10:49 am
I agree…kickdrum heart is my least favorite. Glad you’re enjoying it. You are forever indebted to me.

Ham would be happy to know I have picked up some Black Keys albums. Very good, for those of you not familiar.

I’ve got Rubber Factory and Brothers. I haven’t heard much of their other stuff.

His name is Daaaaaan Uggla!!! His neck alone would be worth that contract. Great show! Totally stoked!!!

Great to hear your voices again.
Yesterday picked up a UPS package to me from the Atlanta Braves. Last year I felt flush and bought season tickets. I decided not to renew this year. The package contained a letter asking me to renew and a “past due” invoice because I hadn’t yet. Now, not a McLouth waste of money, but seriously, was that worth the $14-20 it cost to UPS it to me, when they could have put a stamp on it or e-mailed? Honest to god…

They should have just sent McLouth to your house, Anne, for a hand delivery. At least we would have gotten SOME value out of him. (To be fair, he probably would have missed the mailbox or only been able to throw it half way up the walk.)
January 28th, 2011 at 11:33 am
It DID take them three times to deliver it correctly…and I ended up picking it up instead, so maybe we now know what he does in the off-season.

I love The Onion. Prince Fielder explains complexities of salary arbitration using cheeseburgers:

I felt early on in the show at least, maybe it will change later on, two out of the three of you basically wrote of Jordan Schafer…why is there so much bad feeligns toward him? They addressed this on Bill Shanks’ radio show when they had Jordan on the other night, which I suggest you listen to. He was hurt…give the kid a chance, the potential is still there, he’s still young, and hopefully we will all see the Schafer we say on Opening Day ’09.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:49 pm
I feel way better about Jordan than I do Nate.
January 28th, 2011 at 11:27 pm
Taylor, I don’t know if I was one of the two, but my hopes for Schafer for outweigh those that I have for McLouth. DOB’s article about Schafer really has me believing in his redemption. I have seen what we can expect from McLouth. I don’t feel the same about Schafer.
January 28th, 2011 at 11:27 pm
*far* outweigh, that would be
January 29th, 2011 at 9:41 pm
Hi Taylor. I don’t remember exactly what was said but I too have high hopes for Jordan. I just think that any kind of return is not imminent. He’s barely played for a year. I just don’t see him being able to jump back into the Majors much before mid-point in the season, at the earliest.
January 30th, 2011 at 3:48 pm
If McLouth holds on to the CF job through the Spring, will Schafer start the year at AAA?

I find it ironic that pitchers and catcher report on Valentines Day. Looks like all is right with the baseball world.

Hey guys and gals! Im new to making a comment but not to reading all yours. Im a huge braves fan and watch all games on the mlb package. I dont understand y everybody is so hard on mcclouth. He had 1 bad year and as long as his confidence regains. As much as ive read and heard it has. Then we as fans should give him a chance to make up for it. And i believe he will. Thanks go braves.
January 31st, 2011 at 11:03 am
Welcome Brandon! I hope you’re right about McLouth. One of my favorite clips from last year was his game winning homer resulting in an empty dugout. I don’t have a lot of confidence in him defensively or offensively. I hope he proves me wrong and I have to eat crow.
January 31st, 2011 at 11:13 am
Thanks for the welcome. I dont think nate’s is great by any mean but his 09 stats would definitely work and he can do that

#Braves manager Fredi G. reiterated today that rehabbing Chipper’s in every lineup variation he’s thought of, batting No. 3 in every one.
Why does this seem a bit unsettling?
