Show #135: Final Business Before Spring
Dan Uggla’s contract extension. One year deals for the arbitration eligible players. And the leading candidate for CF (guess who?).

I’m getting excited about Schafer too…somebody slap me.

Is there any sort of live broadcast of any spring training game? Am just gonna have to sit and watch Mother Blogger’s twitter feed?
February 25th, 2011 at 7:43 am
If you get MLB At Bat, according to the email they sent me, you will get spring training games through that package this year. If it is Buck Belue and John Kincaid again, I would rather my ears be peeled off by a berzerker chimp.

According to DOB, the Braves are putting more work into conditioning and fundamentals. What a crazy concept. Maybe Fredi saw Melky’s highlight video from last year.

Speaking of Melky, look at his picture from this Spring. Looks like he’s in way better shape than any time last year. Not cool, Melky. http://www.daylife.com/photo/03e35UkchG4Jl?q=Melky

If the braves trade Tim Hudson I’m driving down to Turner Field and beating somebody’s behind. Just sayin.
February 25th, 2011 at 10:23 am
Hudson wouldn’t approve a trade so you don’t have to worry.
February 25th, 2011 at 10:46 am
Definitely not cool, Melky. Maybe he finally woke up and realized he was on the Royals.
February 25th, 2011 at 10:47 am
I see no way they trade Hudson or Lowe. It would devestate the rotation.
Curt – you’re safe for tomorrow, at least: You can listen in ATL on 680, 93.7 & Braves Radio Network. Don Sutton and Jim Powell will call the action.
February 25th, 2011 at 10:50 am
A Hudson trade won’t happen. Trading your ace before the season is never a way to go, especially when you plan on competing. I don’t think the Yankees could put together a package for a player of Timmy’s caliber. Now Kawakami is another story.
February 25th, 2011 at 10:52 am
I like Powell and Sutton, but they need to put that ” grandma’s hot-buttered prune juice” routine on the shelf.
February 25th, 2011 at 1:17 pm
Doesn’t it seem insane that the Yankees would even inquire about Hudson? I would love to hear what was coming our way. You can bet Joba was in there somewhere. But it just boggles my mind they even thought of asking the Braves if he was available. But are we not hoping to contend? Why would we ever trade our ace before the season even started. And again, Javy Vazquez was there. Maybe he wanted out more than he could stay, and granted his history there is awful, but come on.
I think I was more shocked at the sheer number of Braves related people in those slides from the Royals. Think I counted 5 or 6. Including their GM and coach.

From Bowman: Tomorrow’s probable #Braves lineup: Schafer DH, McLouth 8, Heyward 9, McCann 2, Hinske 7, Freeman 3, Conrad 4, Hicks 5, Diory Hernandez 6
I can’t lie, my Schafer frenzy is growing hourly.

Schafer’s been pretty fast this spring and did a bunch of speed work in the off season that has seemingly paid off. I say we get 25 – 30 steals from Schafer and a lot of taking an extra base. C’mon man – it’s the Jordan Schafer era!
February 25th, 2011 at 3:50 pm
Here’s how that was supposed to read:
“Schafer’s been pretty fast this spring and did a bunch of speed work in the off season that has seemingly paid off. I say we get 25 – 30 steals from Schafer and a lot of taking an extra base. C’mon man – it’s the Jordan Schafer era!”

With Adam Wainwright’s injury, how do you feel about a Derek Lowe for Colby Rasmus swap?
February 25th, 2011 at 7:48 pm
165 made me laugh way out loud. My latest tweet…
“I decided not to get MLB.tv since I work and won’t be able to watch all the time like usual. I lasted until the day b4 ST. Not bad!”
February 25th, 2011 at 7:50 pm
166…I don’t want to mess with our rotation…which probably means it would be a good idea. You’ll find I’m usually wrong. Not having a pity party, just the truth.
February 26th, 2011 at 10:28 am
Who’s excited?????? I am!!!!!!!
February 26th, 2011 at 3:40 pm
Freddie Freeman’s gonna be fun to watch. Brooksy makes me sad.
February 26th, 2011 at 3:44 pm
Gotta love Mets sloppy play.
February 26th, 2011 at 3:48 pm
Just like ole times. Me watching baseball, talking to myself on the board, sheer bliss.
February 26th, 2011 at 4:28 pm
Willie Harris, new uniform, same story, post Brave killing us early.

Curt – #165 was hilarious.
Not a bad day, I’d say. Of course, with ST games, early ones at that, it’s easy to say the good stuff is really meaningful and the bad stuff can be ignored. With that in mind. Thrilled with Freeman’s 3 doubles. Schafer’s hit, Lucas’ hits. JJ’s two good innings. Although, despite my caveat, it is hard to ignore that Conrad had an error his first game back. The dude’s got to be tortured right now thinking about it. You know he wanted a clean one his first game back.
Pumped for Chipper, Prado and Uggla tomorrow.
