You’ve got to give it to the Braves. They swept the Mariners just to make sure that no matter which game Curt’s newly-wed friends watched, it was a win.

    Bubdylan Says:

Ham, I knew “Vernon, Florida” was way too life-affirming to have come from Curt. Maybe if the sweet old jewel-order guy had been eaten by an aligator.

    Bubdylan Says:

You know, I’m tempted to put the Seattle sweep pretty high on the season accomplishments so far. Anyone else feel that way?

Oh, and just to put you on alert: I noticed Baltimore has a winning record against both the AL Central and the AL West. Couple that with the Braves’ tendencies to play “down,” to be less good at home, and to follow the happy with the very sad, and we could be in for a rough weekend. It would be really great if they picked now to not do that.

    Curt Says:

Bub, taking credit for the movie was just to bust on Ham. He thinks I get credit for all his brilliance. Apparently we sound alike to some of our loyal listeners.

It was pretty great my friends got to see such good baseball. A swell sign for their new life together.

And Bub, I’m with you on the sweep. Better than the Jays we just got excited about last week. On the road, really good pitching, decent team, end of a west coast road trip, etc. Great stuff.

    Bubdylan Says:

Ah. I thought you were busting on me saying you sound alike.

Hammy, you can rest assured I’ve never given Curt credit for (your) brilliance. 8)

    Steve Says:

Bub – 100% on the Seattle sweep. And Game 1 was the most improbable and amazing of them all. A lefty with a sub 2.5 ERA. Then a comeback win after that. And taking down King Felix to boot. Fantastic.

And yes, I’m worried about the Orioles at home.

    Curt Says:

#180 or even my own, for that matter

    Leah Says:

Sad for Willie Harris. That is all I can type in with my blurred medicated vision.

    ham Says:

Curtis – I will always fall for that. I have a blind spot in that regard.

I am not worried about the Orioles. We have turned a corner. Two good weeks in a row. Beating left handers. Uggla hitting. Lowe winning. This is a new team.

We are who we thought we were.

Here’s the facial expression I see when I read #184. Poor ham.

    Frigatedoc Says:

Ham you said it in the last show… “two good weeks in a row!”

Last night was the first time all year that I MISSED the Braves playing on an off day!

  12. 187
    ham Says:

Bub – I am a good pig; I’ll admit it.

But seriously, don’t you guys feel better about the boys now? Some of the swoons previously this season almost seemed like foregone conclusions, but I feel like putting up a stinker against the O’s would be the biggest surprise/disappointment of this season.

    Cue the no-hitter against us . . .

  13. 188
    Bubdylan Says:

Ham, I’m not sold on Heyward and Uggla being close to the production we need from them. When that happens, I’ll be way, way excited. When that happens, we may be the best team in the NL or even in baseball.

As it is, I’m having a good time watching them play inspired baseball in spite of shortcomings.

  14. 189
    Steve Says:

#185 really made me laugh. I was expecting to see Steve Carell’s face from the 40 Year Old Virgin poster. Yours was much better.

Ham – it’s been a hell of a week and a half, but those two losses to SD were only 6 days ago. And Uggla is not *really* hitting yet. Here are his BA/OPB/SLG the last 6 games. Better, but nowhere near the level where I’m declaring an end to his personal state of emergency: .200 .333 .500

All of that said, I am psychotically excited about this O’s series. Take 2 of 3 from them and look good doing it and my confidence levels will grow significantly.

  15. 190
    Curt Says:

3 weeks Doc. 3 good weeks in a row and I am sold. I feel it coming.

  16. 191
    Curt Says:

You know that Cliff Lee knocked in more runs in June than he gave up? Crazy.

  17. 192
    Anne Says:

Excited to go to the game tonight…it’s been too long, and always good to have Jair on the mound. Go Braves!!

  18. 193
    Bubdylan Says:

    twss

    (sorry)

  19. 194
    ham Says:

Stevie – I hear you, but i am all in on optimism this weekend. Don’t know why, but I am.

  20. 195
    DAP Says:

steve DAP, what would you give up for JJ Hardy?

yes, he will be a free agent and if the braves got him, they would need to extend him as well. i’d give the O’s gonzalez, to playout his contract for the rest of the year, pastorinicky, who is our best most advanced SS prospect, and one of the lower rated pitching prospects like hoover or redmond.

i think they take that since hardy will be a free agent, but again, braves would need to sign hardy in the off season.

and even if they dont trade for him, lets hope the extension with the O’s falls through, because the braves should go after him as a free agent.

  21. 196
    DAP Says:

also on hardy, though he is playing above his career averages, he is 28 and entering his prime. this is a time where he may play above his career averages for several years in a row. also, his career averages are over 100 OPS points better than what gonzalez is giving us.

if you look at hardy’s career numbers, they are up and down a bit, but one thing you can know about him. he has a pretty good K/BB ratio, has above average power for a SS, and hes just OK at getting on base. so to me, hes a bottom of the order hitter, probably 6th or 7th. he is also a very good fielding SS.

  22. 197
    Anne Says:

#193 – oh, Bub. Oh, and days later…the Kenshin comment could have been floating in the ether from last season, but he gave up like 7 runs in a double A game. Good money after bad. Wait…it’s all bad. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/06/huntsville_stars_sock_ex-atlan.html

  23. 198
    Anne Says:

Bonus: Ballpark Frank joining my motley crew tonight!

  24. 199
    Leah Says:

Is the game on tv tonight? Thought I might could get it on the tube here in Big Canoe.
