“The Pirates want to make incremental improvements”… Isn’t that the definition of “picking up McLouth”?

    Mark in Memphis Says:

Beachy needs the throw at the guy in the on deck circle… while he is in the on deck circle…

We should NOT see him in the picture unless he is getting too close to the plate…

    Walker Says:

Prado needs to get it together.

    Leah Says:

    Take him out!

  5. 255
    Leah Says:

    Beachy…not Prado…never Prado. Or Freeman.

    Leah Says:

    More runs please!

    Walker Says:

More than any player in the majors, I wish Dontrelle well in his future endeavors. Just not in this game.

    Leah Says:

Um, how long can Chapman pitch? Like how many innings? I have never wanted JHey to knock one out more than that at bat.

    David Says:

Okay. I completely understand Fredi’s whole “Alex Gonzalez doesn’t have to hit because his defense is so good” talk. As stupid as this statement is, Gonzalez’s defense really is terrific, and so he does deserve a little bit of leeway with his bad offense.

But if this is the case, then under NO circumstance should Fredi be batting him 6th — behind 3 of this team’s hottest and most productive hitters. Batting Gonzalez behind Freeman, who is batting behind Uggla, who is behind McCann? That is asinine. I’d much rather see Wilkin Ramirez give Freeman some protection.

(Also, I’m watching this game on what is probably a 20-30 minute delay. Gonzalez just hit a 15-foot grounder to strand runners at 1st and 2nd in the top of the 6th.)

    Mark in Memphis Says:

Dontrell got that pitch SEVERAL times…

    Leah Says:

Surely the other guys will say something to Valentine. He’s being obnoxious.

    Leah Says:

I guess when you spend that many years in the valley of sucktitude you come out warped.

  13. 263
    David Says:

LUGO > GONZALEZ, any day and every day

    (again…20-30 minute delay)

  14. 264
    Walker Says:

    263 is a bandwagoner

Also…I would just like to point out that the team the Cincinnati Reds are playing tonight are the Atlanta Braves.

Since 98% of the ESPN broadcasting has been centered around the Reds, the 4-team race in the NL Central, Dontrelle Willis’ comeback campaign, Barry Larkin’s upbringing, and Joey Votto’s toe fungus, I thought that this simple fact might have gotten easily overlooked.

Oh — and the 20-30 minute delay says that this week’s blog should lead with the Wayward Heyward after he busted that rally with the GIDP. ARRRRRGH.

    Mark in Memphis Says:

Alomar is a class act alright… a NO class act.

He mocked the fans of Atlanta doing the chop when his team was winning in a WS game…. What an A-hole!

  17. 267
    Walker Says:

God forbid game 7 of the NLCS and we lose with Linebrink instead Kimbrel in extra innings. Use your best first Fredi. Home and away. What a stupid strategy.

  18. 268
    Jo-Bu Says:

Another masterful job at game management by Fredi.

  19. 269
    Curt Says:

To say that I saw that coming from a mile away would do disservice to a mile

  20. 270
    Leah Says:

    I hate baseball.

  21. 271
    Walker Says:

Its safe to say we win despite of Fredi. Horrible managing once again.

  22. 272
    Walker Says:

This fixation of only using your closer at home in tie games dumbfounds me. Use your closer to extend your teams chances of getting a lead. Then let your other relievers close the game out. That way if they mess up, they were at least pitching with a cushion. However if they mess up when we are tied the game is over.

  23. 273
    Nate Says:

    Ouch

  24. 274
    Curt Says:

Man did I take some heat for calling that 3-4 trip.

Another stupid ballpark. If your team can’t compete in a major league ballpark, construct a better team. And if your fans can’t appreciate baseball without it all being about the homer, get better fans.

  25. 275
    David Says:

As soon as Brooksie struck out in the top of the 9th with a runner on 3rd, I knew the game was over and it wouldn’t be going to extra innings. Just didn’t think it would happen with one swing of the bat. Damn. What a lame way to lose the game.
