Fair enough.
Though, as Frank Wren Apologist extrordinaire, I feel compelled to give hellos from Hanson, Minor, Beachy, Teheran, Vizcaino, Delgado, etc, etc.
I think it’s no secret that Wren’s trade strategy is very conservative and protective. But I don’t see how else he can keep a contender together on 90 million.
All the same, I could live without another useless Farnsworth/Ankiel subtraction by addition move. Rather do nothing.

We’re “hot” for Carlos Quenton according to Rosenthal. Maybe we should pass him a note at recess.

“But I don’t see how else he can keep a contender together on 90 million.”
Probably

I’ll bet a refresh http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/atlanta_braves/ 100 times a day!

@224
Never said he did.
However, full disclosure, he was the top Asst. GM in Aug 2007 when the trade was made and became GM in Oct. 2007.

If I ever discover that long term faith in Jordan Schafer is the reason the Braves backed off of Bourn, I will turn in my Frank Wren fan club card.
July 28th, 2011 at 2:27 pm
Surely other teams have similar trade stories that don’t pan out. Some teams can just go out and buy what they need to replace what they thought they needed.

Who’s winning the fantasy contest?
July 28th, 2011 at 3:05 pm
FANTASTIC QUESTION! Kate’s still winning…I’m still in second. Chicks rule!

#235… oh …. LOL.

Looking at Wil Nieves’ stats for this year, I feel like we almost got screwed paying a dollar for him
July 28th, 2011 at 3:44 pm
#236 “angry eyes”
It takes a very humble manager to realize his or her weaknesses and call on resources of all kinds in order to get the job done. The job, in this case, being beat all you hairy men.
July 28th, 2011 at 3:45 pm
And again…Curt, what is your excuse for getting beaten so very badly by Anne? Pray tell?
July 28th, 2011 at 3:53 pm

I mean Kate. Trying to sneak in comments during work hours gets very tricky.
July 28th, 2011 at 4:03 pm
I’m hairy?

I think we did get screwed by the Wil Nieves deal. We gotta pick up the rest of his salary for the year (but I think he was at league minium anyway). He won’t even get a sniff of the show this year. I’m still wondering why we got him unless he’s filling in for Boscan down on the farm.

Last comment on ownership until there is new ownership: If someone could turn John Malone into a real fan of the Braves (instead of a Rockies fan), it would be like having Ted Turner back. He has that type of money ($4.5 billion or so). Can’t some of you invite him over to the house and brain wash him? Money can’t buy a championship but it would make some of the decisions talked about above a lot easier.

Gammons just announced that the Braves were after Marlon Byrd, but Cubs still plan to contend (lol).
July 28th, 2011 at 4:52 pm
The pursuit of Byrd tells us two things: Braves know they need a CF upgrade and Wren is still good at keeping his goals quiet.
July 28th, 2011 at 5:01 pm
Ugh. Ludwick, if whispers are to be believed.
July 28th, 2011 at 5:03 pm
Wait, nevermind. Misunderstood the Schulz tweet, I think.
July 28th, 2011 at 5:13 pm
Looks like something may be happening, though. DOB and Shulz both mentioning a quick/purposeful meeting between Fredi, Wren, and Manno.
Two rumors it could be connected to, and both worrisome: Pence is close to being traded, and Ludwick is out of the line up. Ludwick sucks and I’d hate to see what would be paid for Pence of Houston really turned down the rumored offer from Philly…
July 28th, 2011 at 5:28 pm
In addition to Quentin, the White Sox are reportedly “dangling” another name…
Adam Dunn
Think a “change of scenery” back to the NL (especially the NL East) would help him?
(I don’t think , and such could convey the tone enough to say how much I hope we DON’T persue THAT trade…)
