Astros have us absolutely over the barrel for Bourn now. Would not be surprised if they hold out for the exact package (2 of our four plus a lesser guy) they wanted for Pence, and what can we do about it besides settle for Upton or Byrd? My hope for getting Bourn is very dim. Ed Wade’s last stand. Braves can’t seem to buy a break.

Well one bright side is that you know what to talk about on tomorrow nights show! We will a know the outcome by then!
July 30th, 2011 at 1:30 pm
Anyone see that the Phils are talking to the White Sox about Thome?
July 30th, 2011 at 1:48 pm
Maybe the Braves are just “throwing in the towel” and try to win with just what they have….
July 30th, 2011 at 3:16 pm
From Jayson Stark at ESPN:
“So teams that have spoken with Atlanta, even in the wake of the disappointment in losing out in the Pence bid-a-thon Friday, say the Braves have no plans to do something this weekend that they wouldn’t have done last week or last month — just because Rumor Central readers everywhere think they need to make a deal.”
I really don’t get this team

Buster_ESPN Buster Olney
A strong belief in the ATL organization that the package they offered for Pence was markedly better than deal HOU made with Philadelphia.

Is there bad blood between the Astros and and Braves??
Are the Astros STILL mad about that play Walt Weiss did with “The Creature” in the Divisional Playoffs?
July 30th, 2011 at 6:16 pm
Everyone who is a contender has made deals but the Braves….
Oh, except for Wil Nieves who Yahoo Sports describes as a “warm body” until Mccann comes back.
Looks likes Furcal is going to the Cardinals…..
Think maybe now the Dodgers are unloading and MAY deal Kemp?

“Is there bad blood between the Astros and and Braves??”
My money’s on good blood between the Astros and Phillies.

#434 was Bub.
July 30th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
And by “good blood” I mean pretty much collusion.
July 30th, 2011 at 7:23 pm
Conspiracy I tell you!!!! Conspiracy!!!!
July 30th, 2011 at 7:41 pm
Yeah, it’s pretty far fetched and wacky to think something’s goofy about turning down the best offer and shipping talent to your ex-team in the months before everybody knows you’ll be fired.
July 30th, 2011 at 7:57 pm
His name is Dan Uggla!!!!
21 game hitting streak. 4-zip, good guys.

Some interesting info:
The Braves are working hard to acquire an outfield bat, but there are “still no dance partners” according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick (on Twitter).
The Astros sent $2MM (not $1MM) to the Phillies in the Pence deal, according to ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark (on Twitter). The Phillies won’t have to pay the luxury tax this way, Stark reports.
The Braves would have included Mike Minor in a deal for Pence, according to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney (on Twitter).
One executive tells Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that the Braves have six untouchable players (Twitter link).
The Marlins intend to keep Leo Nunez, Omar Infante, Ricky Nolasco and Randy Choate, according to Olney (on Twitter). They’ve gotten tons of hits on those players, Olney reports.
July 30th, 2011 at 9:16 pm
Bottom Line: We need a centerfielder.
July 30th, 2011 at 9:23 pm
BillShanks
Heard the Astros are pushing for Braves catching prospect Christian Bethancourt to lead any deal for outfielder Michael Bourn.
I hope Wren isn’t stingy with a catching prospect. I don’t think we need a catcher anytime soon.
July 30th, 2011 at 9:43 pm
408, too bad they are hitting like Moe and Curly.
July 30th, 2011 at 9:55 pm
419, Many would question your line about Chipper “if he is a true Brave”. Who is a truer Brave? He has reworked his contracts before to accomodate this team that is run on the cheap. He is about winning and I don’t begrudge him his paydays. Rip on Lowe if you like as he did nothing past or present to deserve his pay.
July 30th, 2011 at 10:13 pm
I don’t remember who mentioned it earlier, but the Braves are totally over a barrel with Bourn. The Astros can just sit back and watch as 4+ teams bid for him.
And, the more I read, I don’t blame the Braves about how this is turning out. They freaking offered Minor for Pence. A ML ready pitcher plus some other guys. And they take two unproven prospects from the Phils. Total effing screw job. And it makes the Braves, imo, look more conservative than they’ve been at this trade deadline.
July 30th, 2011 at 10:19 pm
Ed Wade is helping his old team out. The Braves are one of the most Hated on teams in the Majors.
