I think all those cap tippings are gonna come back to haunt us. Too many pitching injuries to overcome. We’re below .500 in Lowe’s starts, please don’t start him in the postseason. Or are WR still waiting for him to “flip the switch”?
It might not matter. Cards are playing really well and have a joke schedule the rest of the way. The Braves have looked terrible for a while and have 2 road series and then the Phils at home.
Not that it gives me confidence, or a desire for him to be in any postseason rotation, but in 2004, Lowe went 14-12 with a 5.42 in the regular season. In the postseason, he went 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA and was the winning pitcher in the series clinching games in the ALCS and the WS. That was also 7 years ago.
Beachy is not exactly filling me with a lot of confidence right now himself.
#4, Wow, good point. I was just looking at how the team has done with each pitcher on the mound, and Minor is this year’s Medlen in terms of the team winning baseball games. Even when he’s not great he keeps us in the game. We’re under .500 when Beachy pitches, but he doesn’t give up a lot of blowouts. It’s really depressing to look at what the team was doing when JJ and Hanson we’re really going good. Fortunately Hudson has gotten stronger as the season has gone on. Lowe is terrible when he’s off his game, which he has been a lot this year. When he’s on he can shut down an offense. Regardless of what we all think, I think the team and Fredi have a lot of confidence in Lowe on the big stage, so he’s going to pitch.
I just feel like we’re walking into a beat down in October. If we make it. My hope meter is at a 5. To quote Hammy, “The only thing going in our favor is Math.”
We are beyond due for a good week, and please baseball gods, let it carry over into October. Please let Lowe dominate the Fish this week.
Say Hammy, Looks like Gonzales goes to Clean Up and Uggla moves to 6th… (jus kiddin’) had to add that jus to give Gonzo some love since he’s been hammered all yr on here. I really think he needed that rest. I think others need more rest than he’s given ‘em. We could have used Hinske’s bat at other times. Why he didn’t use Hinske instead of starting Matt Diaz, I’m mystified..due to left right mix. Cox has done things significantly different than Fredi.
Bowman had a tweet this morning about overhearing someone say they think the Braves will be lucky to win the WC. He followed it with a comment (that I read as rose colored glasses with some arrogance thrown in) that he’d never heard that about a team up 3.5 with 9 to play.
I don’t get that confidence, at all. Would anyone be surprised if we lost 2 of three against the Fish? And the Cards take 2 of their next 3?
What right do we have to be arrogant or confident about anything at this point? The Braves could easily go 2-7. 3-6 to finish the season. You like our chances against even Worley and Kendrick in the last series of the season?
@9, Not at all. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them win 5 of their last 6, either.
The Nationals series is the one that worries me. Same with the Phillies series. Manuel might be resting a lot of people, but the guys on their bench kill us just as much as their regulars. We haven’t done much against any of their pitchers lately.
The hitting has to come alive. I mean, this is it. We can’t go into October with an inconsistent offense that can’t get a clutch a hit. We’ve all seen how that plays out too many times.
i would start minor over lowe, and i would have said that last week, too. our bullpen is dominant, and all we need is 5 good innings from someone. minor is the guy for that. lowe is giving up too much contact, even when he is getting outs. lets throw the rookies, seriously.
the only thing working for us right now is math. great quote and absolutely true right now. if the braves go 4-5 over their last 9, cardinals have to go 8-2 to force a playoff game.
its a good thing the braves played so great all summer, right?
I would NOT want to make the call on who to keep (JJ or Hanson). I totally think that Hanson has the lesser “long term” pitcher because of mechanics….
When we were talking a week or so ago about the Braves could play 500 ball and the Cardinals would have to be like 15 and 2…..what happens if the braves lose 4 games in a row and the Cardinals win 4 in a row…..that would be bad right?
***FALCONS NOTE*** reading the blogs from Eagles fans……wow, crazy people. Sick of seeing “If Vick had stayed in the game the Falcons would have lost” Was Vick playing defence when the Falcons scored 14 points in the 4th quarter? Hey Vick….. We are pointing at the scoreboard! PLUS the hit that Ryan took in the helmet was just as bad as Robinson’s hit on the Eagles player.
I think it’s a no brainer on who to keep between Hanson and JJ. The braves are on a budget so it makes sense to roll with Hanson because of more control years. Not to mention the fact that he has a higher upside.
