How do Yankees fans put up with a ballpark that dilutes the HR numbers of all those great players from the past?

ESPN: “Braves Beachy to See Andrews for Tear”

I didn’t know the doctor got so emotionally involved.

    Hyuck hyuck.

Bub – finally got the solid time to watch Fiennes’ Coriolanus. So great. One reviewer who noted he made smart choices such as surrounding himself with a strong supporting cast = 100% agree. Even the random Romans with speaking parts are just great. I could watch Vanessa Redgrave in anything. Modern dress/setting didn’t bug me at all. I’m glad he kept it in Rome instead if, oh, say, Afghanistan. Oh, and Go Braves.

Anne, agreed X 100 on Vanessa Redgrave. In the behind-the-scenes, she admits she went from not believing she could possibly pull off the role to thinking it might be her best work.

Glad you liked it. I thought it was very clever without wearing its cleverness on its sleeve (I’m looking at you, Baz Luhrmann’s R & J).

Next Ralph is directing himself as Charles Dickens. That’ll be … something.

    Press Release from the Bravos:

ATLANTA – Atlanta Braves right-handed pitcher Brandon Beachy underwent successful “Tommy John” surgery today to reconstruct the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The operation was performed in Gulf Breeze, Fla., by Dr. James Andrews. Beachy, 25, went 5-5 with a 2.00 ERA in 13 starts for the Braves this season. At the time of his surgery, Beachy ranked tied for the Major-League-lead in ERA at 2.00, while he led the Majors in opponents’ batting average (.171) among all qualifying starting pitchers. He owns a career record of 12-10 with a 3.07 ERA in 41 career starts.

@81 brought back memories of me watching a Yankee game once. It was a treat by a client of mine in NY so I had to pretend to root for the Yankees. But deep inside I was hoping they’d strike out 27 times. They of course rallied and won on a walk-off with Jeter scoring the winning run. It was a painful night as I got splattered with Yankee obnoxiousness.

    @83 sad.

81 and 82 are both hilarious!

Sadly, I know versions of all of those characters (81) in Ga too!

    From DOB:

“I like his makeup — he doesn’t seem to be intimated at all,” Walker said. “I haven’t seen enough of him yet, but he’s obviously talented enough to hit in this league. He seems comfortable right now, but we’re not working on anything yet, we’re just watching him play and kind of letting it unfold a little bit more. We’re just kind of in watch-and-see mode, and see how it goes.

Is it bad to hope he doesn’t need advice all season?

Also, JJ will kill it tomorrow.

  12. 87
    Danny Says:

The Walker quote referred to Simmons btw.

    Danny Says:

I also liked reading today where someone referred to our starting pitching depth today and compared our chances of overcoming the Beachy loss to last years’ Cards.

  14. 89
    Bubdylan Says:

I agree JJ will kill it.

I doubt we have the same idea about what “it” is, though. :)

  15. 90
    Walker Says:

Congrats to Lebron and the Heat. Anybody with that kind of talent eventually has to win one.

  16. 91
    Curt Says:

Yes, congrats to a another franchise for buying a championship. Way to go Miami.

  17. 92
    BRAVEinNY (Matt) Says:

HAMMY- Are you going to be at the games this weekend is Boston?

If so, I will be there Saturday. Maybe see you there.

  18. 93
    Walker Says:

Free agency is apart of the game. In 1997 the Marlins had the 5th highest payroll in the league. Why didn’t the other 4 teams win instead? You have to execute. As a Braves fan I wish the Braves had the funds to add a huge free agent piece sometimes. But we don’t. And that speaks to our ownership not caring. Stienbrenner wanted it more and did what he had to do.I will always respect that. And remember buying players also happens when you are able to keep the players you develop or trade for on you team. That means bye bye to McCann after next year. Bye Bye to Bourn after this year. And its really ashame.

    Nate Says:

Feels like tonight’s a lot bigger than your average late-June MLB game. I really hope JJ can show some confidence tonight and have a solid outing. It feels like he’s pitching for his Atlanta Braves career.

    Steve Says:

@92 – Matt! Howdy. Good to hear from you. I hope you have a great time at Fenway on Saturday.

@94 – couldn’t agree more. While JJ’s performance tonight doesn’t necessarily have wide reaching ramifications for the rest of the season… IT COULD. Really good or really bad will point the FO in a direction as we head to the trade deadline.

On a side note, I get a small, perverse thrill every time I write “FO” in a post.

  22. 97
    Curt Says:

Sheriff, do the letters F O mean anything to you?

    - The Bandit

  23. 98
    Ham Says:

Matt – I am NOT going to any games this weekend, and it’s killing me. Drove by Fenway on the way home tonight, and it made me sick. Have fun tomorrow.

And Curtis, as much as I wanted the Thunder to win (even though I am glad the Lebron as a choker storyline is over), the Heat and Hawks payroll are only 4 mil different. I know its hard to imagine this without giggling/puking, but if the Hawks had won, certainly you wouldn’t complain.

  24. 99
    Curt Says:

Turns out the hawks didn’t win

  25. 100
    ham Says:

while it is still way in the realm of Fredi to do whatever to this game . . . JJ has looked nice. Stevie and Curtis, I know you mocked me for my faith, but it is really happening . . .

Just to be clear, Livan is not on our roster any more is he?
