That’s a good, if premature, point Anne. Can’t be many guys. Mostly Yankees I would imagine. And most with short careers or guys who played for a bunch of teams.

I think Chipper’s first full season was 95

Prado for Upton is so tempting. Upton has alot of cost certainty and his ceiling is so high. Can you imagine Upton and Heyward reaching their highest potential together? What a lethal L/ R combo. I would only agree to do this trade if Wren pulls out a crazy 4 team trade where we trade Prado, Delgado,Minor,2 B level Prospects for Grienke, Upton, and either a CF or 3b prospect. I would do that deal in a heartbeat.

    Walker Says:

Of course that deal would mean bye to McCann after next year and hello to Betancourt.

    Nate Says:

@103 Braves fans might need to be preparing themselves for that regardless of an Upton deal.

I just can’t believe the D’Backs are actually going to deal him, and it’s even harder for me to imagine us resigning him when the time comes. We would also probably have to give them 2 pitchers that could potentially win 15+ games for about a decade. Steep price for an inconsistent player, imo.

I also think Olney and friends undervalue Prado. Martin saves our ass for the 3rd straight year with his ability to play about 4 positions and still bat .300 in the process. Upton would join your team, go into a slump and not even care to get out of it. It’s in the Upton baseball player DNA. I would rather keep Prado.

    Walker Says:

What a difference a year makes. Last Year Prado was hitting .260 and was mediocre while Upton was 24 years old hitting 31 bombs with a .898 OPS.

    Nate Says:

Upton is a tremendous talent, no doubt, but if you pull off a trade for Upton and Greinke you will have to part with multiple future major leaguers. All I have to do is look at the Texas Rangers to know that’s not a good idea. Andrus is a BIG part of that team. We gave them that, a middle of the rotation starter, and a dominant arm for their bullpen. There is no guarantee Upton or Greinke will resign with the Braves. It’s a huge risk.

    Mark in Memphis Says:

    @70

Looking at the replay, he started the wrong way and he could have dove to keep the ball on the infield, but he wouldn’t have gotten the ball the first in time, so why dive?

    (maybe…)

Offer Pastornicky as the third baseman in the deal along w/ pitching prospects…

    Mark in Memphis Says:

    Interesting idea from Buster, though…

i.e. If they move Prado in a deal for Upton, w/ Chipper retiring at the end if the season, would plans perhaps include a position change for Uggla from second to third…

Things that make you go “Hmmmmm…”

    Shaun Says:

I used to think Uggla to third might work. I just don’t know about that. I don’t know if his arm is accurate or strong enough. I remember at least a few games in which he bounced throws to first from second.

I’m starting to wonder if it came down to crunch time this offseason, the Braves still have holes at center, left/third and in the pitching staff, would they explore trading Uggla to get salary relief and possibly to fill some holes.

Uggla is the one player whose contract has the potential to somewhat tie the team down. Someone like Pastornicky could likely provide at least *something* at secondbase at a minimal cost.

I think it’s something worth at least exploring in the offseason. But it would depend on how much offense the Braves could acquire at left/third and center. Obviously you wouldn’t want to give up that kind offense without making it up somewhere.

    David Says:

106 – I agree a trade for Greinke is too risky – we may have to give up too much with no assurance of signing him beyond this year. Plus, he’s a bit of a head case – spiking the ball? What happens if he doesn’t get a borderline pitch in a key spot and he loses pitch control?

For offseason, I’d like to see us trade Jurrjens and maybe another player (or mid-level prospect) to Minnesota for Josh Willingham.
