Show #196: A Week of Good Signs for the Braves

The pitching, offense and defense all start clicking.  Credit to Frank Wren and the six man rotation debate.

    Curt Says:

5.5 games back seems so much worse than 4.5. Amazing that you have that run and then lose 2 games back-to-back and seemingly lose all momentum. The freaking Nats.

    Shaun Says:

Wow. That Hanson stuff makes absolutely no sense to me. Seems pretty customary for any player coming off an injury, especially a pitcher, to go on a minor league rehab assignment.

Reminds me of Andruw Jones getting upset and the hubbub over him being placed on revocable waivers that August several years back.

    Is B.Mac blind again?

Great Win. Wow no activity on here tonight.

The Braves’ potent offense entered Tuesday averaging 4.58 runs per game, the second most in the National League.

    did not know that…

Great to see Chipper on the verge of 2700 hits. I’m driving down for the Sat. game against LA, might be my last chance to see him play. Good win tonight, let’s keep it going!

@Ken_Rosenthal: Just announced by #MLB: #SFGiants’ Melky Cabrera suspended 50 games without pay after testing positive for testosterone.

    Frigatedoc Says:

Melky….drinkning too much “milk” I guess. Serves him rigth after those games with Atlanta. What a jerk…..

Him getting 50 games susp is almost the best news I have heard all year.

    Anne Says:

My Mark DeRosa curse continues…sorry, MattyD. Go Braves (sans exclamation point)

  12. 37
    Walker Says:

Wow Melky you let your team down. You are a free agent and you just lost alot of money. You lost respect. You were the MVP of the All Star Game and your team is in the middle of a playoff race. Horrible just Horrible. Maybe you can get off with the Ryan Braun defense. Try it. Who knows?

  13. 38
    Leah Says:

Gearrin just threw my kid a ball!

  14. 39
    Leah Says:

Just catching up on the Melky news. Now we’ll all be suspicious when players slim down and start hitting. Disgraceful.

  15. 40
    Leah Says:

    Wish they caught Melky tomorrow.

  16. 41
    Leah Says:

After that throw back heckler yelled at Bourn “how many colors on that rainbow?”. Michael laughed.

  17. 42
    Leah Says:

The boy and I are sitting just under Uggla’s bomb to LF! Did you guys see me?

  18. 43
    Curt Says:

8-2 road trip for the Nats

  19. 44
    Steve Says:

Leah – that is so awesome about the ball from Gearrin and Ugglas’s HR. Sorry to miss you. I was there yesterday and will be tomorrow.

    Bubdylan Says:

So… McCann & Uggla have career worst years, Beachy out for the year, Venters blows up his ERA, Jurrjens implodes so badly he could be DFA’d in the winter, and Tommy Hanson isn’t far behind him. Minor, Delgado, and Teheran post ERA’s of 4.93, 4.42, and 8.31 respectively. Starting SS completely flops. His replacement breaks his hand.

Result: on pace for 94 wins. Just like we drew it up.

  21. 46
    Steve Says:

@45 – It really is crazy and a good reminder not to get too down about losing streaks. Wait, Bobby, WAS right.

  22. 47
    Steve Says:

And the craziness for JJ continues. He just left his rehab start because of dizziness.

  23. 48
    Walker Says:

    @ Bub

We needed super years from Bourn, Prado, Chipper, and Kimbrel to overcome those things. Not to mention improvements from Freeman and Heyward. The outfield defense has been stellar and so has our GM. And dare I say it, I have not criticized Fredi Gonzalez in over a month. He’s still not a good manager though.

  24. 49
    Bubdylan Says:

Walker, that’s a nice group of high achievers, but it’s still, just by the eye-ball or feeling test, a modest improvement compared with the seeming disasters.

Or, at least, I would have expected those performances, at the most, to put us back to evens. We haven’t won 94 times in a season since Mike Hampton won 13 games for Atlanta…

  25. 50
    Bubdylan Says:

Also, yes, Fredi has improved quite a bit, deserves some credit, and still sucks so bad that he changes the tide in the Gulf of Mexico on home stands.
