Show #196: A Week of Good Signs for the Braves

The pitching, offense and defense all start clicking.  Credit to Frank Wren and the six man rotation debate.

Am I right that Janish came over hitting .130 at the time of the trade? or was he hitting .130 the first few weeks after the trade and that is why that number sticks in my mind?

either way nice game tonight from him and his offense has not sucked recently. Go braves…

This sure has been a great second half for our Bravos. They are beating the teams they should beat and beating the teams they need to beat (for the most part, anyway). As long they keep winning series’

MLB needs do do something about this stupid one-game play-in.. that’s just a bunch of horse poo.

Heard HR and and the gang on MLBN talking about Fransico being Chipper’s Heir apparent. WHAT? WhatT? WHAT??!!

Listen, I know Fredi and Frank had a little talk with him and basically told him that he needed to get his act together or he won’t be a Brave much longer which seems to have lit a fire under his ass, but I’ve not quite bought-in to him playing 3rd full-time and being a free swinning out the majority of that time.

    What do you guys think?

    Adam Says:

I was at the game tonight. When we got there everyone was still abuzz about Chipper’s 2 HR game. When he hit that homerun in the 2nd inning the place went bananas. I swear I saw somebody throw a baby in the chaos.

Did anybody see Loney (think it was him) purposefully throw a bat at a fan after he grounded out in the 9th inning? It bounced off the netting in front of the fan, but myself and everyone around me was shocked Loney didn’t get ejected. Crazy stuff.

And a big congrats to Francisco!! Still don’t want you to be our 3rd basemen next year. Nice hit though.

    Curt Says:

Adam, I don’t think he was deliberately throwing the bat at a fan. He was mad at a call and that was his response after grounding out. It was very childish and even more dangerous when you take into account where it ended up. For the record, Mattingly let him hear about it when he got back to the dugout.

    Leah Says:

And he apologized to the fans behind the on deck circle.

Lots of ESPN love over this game.

    Bubdylan Says:

    Man, Chipper’s OPS’ing 1.024 since that bust-out game on July 3.

    Walker Says:

ESPN has been showing a lot of love lately. They finally recognize greatness.

  12. 112
    Anne Says:

I don’t think the ESPN love is permanent. Some producer gone on a late-summer vacation more likely. Go Braves!!

    Bubdylan Says:

I’m not saying I’m ready for school to start back, but I just read all 59 pages of a High Def Digest thread discussing a problem with green tint in the Fellowship of the Ring Blu-ray disc.

A little fall of rain but they’re squeegee-ing off the tarp now. Go Braves!

Is it really part of the competitive DNA to just stick your head in the sand when an injury hurts your performance/the team? I guess it is.

    Anyway, get well soon, Mac.

    Adam Says:

    Sheets to the bullpen?

    Robot umpires, please.

    Sheets to the bullpen.

    Robot pitchers, please.

  21. 121
    Curt Says:

Nice crowd wasted on that one. Sheets got squeezed on a couple but he was up and slow. That and he never should have pitched to Hanley the 2nd time. He should have been pulled after he walked Ethier, or he should have just let Hanley walk when it was 3-0 and taken his chances. Yeah the bases are loaded, but there are 2 outs. At some point their line was 6 runs, 4 hits, 0 LOB.

    Steve Says:

@116 – Bub, this gets weirder, because the Braves believe it to be a sublixation:

    Leaving me to ask, WTF?

  24. 124
    Steve Says:

And this from a DOB article:

“I don’t know who told you that,” McCann said Saturday. “I don’t have a subluxation. That’s false. I have a cyst that’s sitting on the joint and I’ve got a frayed labrum, a little bit of a fray in my labrum. But that [treatment including possible surgery] is something that we’ll have to decide when the season’s over….

“I got an MRI a while back. That’s what the tests showed. That’s what’s been causing the pain, there’s a cyst that’s sitting on the joint.”

The frayed labrum and cyst are directly related to the subluxation, a Braves official said. The team hopes that McCann, a six-time former All-Star can avoid surgery.
