^ is never going to write the definitive article on anything.

    Curt Says:

All of that might be true. It also means little to me as a fan. All I know is that they (Cards, Marlins, Giants, et al) win, we do not.

    Leah Says:

@24 Any less obsurd prediction wouldn’t have worked. Well played.

    Leah Says:

Goooooo Bulldogs! The Maroon and White version.

    Curt Says:

How about the red and black version? Didn’t think they had a chance. UGa hasn’t has a win like that in years.

  6. 31
    Leah Says:

Ill root for the red and black version when my kids go there. Which is probably inevitable.

  7. 32
    Curt Says:

    Smart kids

    Leah Says:

Poor kids who live in GA an parents who make them study. I’ll be asking for a letter of recommendation from you one day.

    Steve Says:

And then baseball season was really over. Sweeps are no fun like this. At least give us some drama in the WS.

    Shaun Says:

We hear every year about low ratings for the World Series. How about MLB try to figure out how to make the World Series an event instead of trying to recoup their World Series losses by adding extra playoff rounds?

The World Series isn’t an event if you water it down with 2-3 rounds of playoffs.

    Curt Says:

Leah, if you are recommendations on the best nickel beer nite spots, or easiest classes to take in order to graduate, I’m your guy

  12. 37
    Leah Says:

Curt, that’s exactly what I’m talking about.

This has felt like the longest post season ever! Glad it’s over!

    Anne Says:

Leah, if you let me adopt your kids, they can go to Emory for free. …and their football team is undefeated since 1836.

Anyone upset that the Braves exercised McCann’s option? I heard someone on sports talk this afternoon railing against it (it may have been Archer on 790).

  16. 41
    Shaun Says:

Fangraphs estimates McCann was worth $9M, in free agent dollars, in 2012.

From 2008-2011 he was worth between $18M and $25M in every season.

I don’t think folks realize how expensive wins are on the open free agent market. There’s a very good chance McCann’s option is a steal.

    WatchingBraves Says:

@40- I would… except I don’t see any good alternatives. Certainly production was down. But what would you pay on the market for similar production?

How long would you end up locked in for signing a free agent of his caliber? Braves want to keep options open with Bethancourt coming through the system.

Braves may yet keep McCann long-term or let him walk. But for right now, at this moment this is the most reasonable move.

  18. 43
    David Says:

40 – all I know is that this is probably one of the few times when the words “McCann” and “exercised” have been used in the same sentence.

  19. 44
    Leah Says:

@43 lol…I want to see a season with him healthy. Just one! Is that too much to ask?

Sad news about a classic character

Welcome back, Jordan Shafer. Time to dust off my Bob Marley records.

  22. 47
    Leah Says:

    Be afraid…very very afraid.

  23. 48
    Steve Says:

@46 – Just heard that news. Seems like a strange move for the Braves given their seeming committment to character guys. Maybe he’s our opening Day CF so we can spend all our money on A-Rod.

  24. 49
    Curt Says:

Jordan Schafer better not be the answer to any questions
