Bad week against Marlins and Phillies. The Upton brothers. Hudson trade rumor. Uggla’s turnaround.  And Freddie’s uphill battle.

@24 – right. The Braves sure can turn out the masses to ‘stuff the ballot boxes,’ they just can’t turn them out for playoff games. Makes a lot of sense.

And Doc, I have been 20 minutes from the park and been screaming that I couldn’t be there. It is what it is.

Did anyone notice the stands in Philly this weekend? The new ‘greatest fans in baseball’ sure were missing in droves. And it’s not like it was a big series for them. Granted, it wasn’t a playoff game, but enough with the ‘you have bad fans because I see empty seats.’

    In town populations:

    LA – 3.82 million
    Philadelphia – 1.536 million
    Atlanta – 432,427

Hey look, the other team scored first

Don’t you swing at the fastball right down the middle On the first pitch knowing he is trying to get ahead in the count?

It’s fine everybody. We have an all-star on our team.

Just went to ESPN.com to see what the response to Freeman’s fan selection was.

On front page: as one of the 5 main video news packages entitled, “ASG: No Puig.”

Then, during a 2:30 video clip with Buster Olney speaking over it, the graphic says, “PUIG NOT PICKED: Yasiel Puig not selected in NL All-Star Game Final Vote.” Buster says the fans got it right, but the message throughout the whole clip.

I’m not at all surprised. Sour grapes from ESPN, but who cares? Not gonna spoil this moment for Freeman and Braves Country!

Love Freddie even more after his humble reaction to winning all star spot. Such a great guy.

I never thought it would go this way with Freddie and the ESPN backlash galvanizing the country. It was a fun week with all the AS stuff. Now I just hope it doesn’t result in only a PH appearance in the 8th.

An interesting counter-argument to the ESPN conspiracy: http://www.awfulannouncing.com/2013/july/is-espn-stumping-too-hard-for-yasiel-puig.html

Yeah, I’m tired of the slander Braves fan get from other teams, based on attendance, which is ridiculous. Braves attendance is good. Also, about not selling out a playoff game. I wonder, when is the last time this happened? And the last time it happened, how many fans were there? because I bet 20 other MLB stadiums would have been over capacity by the Braves’ “non sellout crowd”.

    DAP Says:

by the way, 3-1 so far this week. im still hoping for my 5-2 prediction to come true.

    Steve Says:

    @36 and 37 – yes and yes

Regarding the sellout crowds, it sounds like excuse making at this point, but a 51,000 seat stadium is silly for baseball. If the Ted was 38K – 40K all the sellout conversation and % of seats filled through the year conversation would dry up.

In case you’ve not seen this yet – how much action is there in a baseball and football game?:

    Leah Says:

@39 Clearly written by a man. There’s sooooooo much to watch during the down time. Just kidding. That article makes me feel a bit lame. I don’t understand why I like baseball so much but I know I can’t not watch it. I also know I get a whole lot done while I watch. Laundry-check. Email-check. Fill freezer with meals for the month- check.

Awesome for the Freak! But holy pitch count batman. Does it usually take 149 pitches to throw a no hitter?

…and, as much as I hate to admit it. You just gotta love Buster Posey.

So with the “AAA” Braves on the field today… do you think that C. Johnson will STILL bat 8th?
