    Looking forward to the podcast.

Did anyone watch the espn broadcast today? The announcers were absolutely loving all the sox fans there, especially during the ortiz HR. First they said the crowd was 50/50, then later they said 80/20. Steve what do u think since u were there? I know there are a lot of sox fans nationwide, but I gotta admit it does feel a bit embarrassing for braves fans to have ur home stadium feel like fenway park. I wish the braves fans would come out tomorrow in full force, if I didnt live in PA I would be there!

Good show. I still have very little feel for what we actually have with this team. Teheran, Freeman, Uggla, Kimbrel, Simmons, and maybe Minor are the guys who feel solidly arrived at what they’re gonna be. Gattis, Heyward, BJ, Johnson, Second Base, Santana, and the back end of the rotation? Who the heck knows? There’s enough margin in that big pile to end up at .500 or .700.

*Forgot J Upton in the first list. Thank goodness.

@1 – I honestly think it was more like 30% of the crowd were Red Sox fans. They are just loud as hell. There were times before the rain delay, particularly like JUPs two run hit when all the Braves fans stood and cheered and you could tell it was much more than half the stadium were Braves fan. But, to your point, it’s ridiculous we’re having this conversation.

For those that missed the photo we tweeted, our buddy Kenneth caught a foul ball at the game yesterday. I’m the guy in the blue Away shersey.

I know you’re making fun of me – but it’s awesome and you’re just jealous.

    Leah Says:

Aw Stevie…I know catching a foul ball has always been your dream. So close. Next time. Cool you were on TV and I hope you punched your Rd Sox friend in the face when Big Papi hit that homer.

SF Giant Michael Morse said something to the effect of “Everyday is a playoff game at this park,” referring to the fan base and how much they love their Giants. I am a lifelong Braves fan and the only time I have seen Braves fans show anything close to the enthusiasm Giants fans display for their team on a daily basis is the second half of the ’91 season. We, myself included, always seem to talk about how bad we are and how hard it is to watch the Braves and how many things we need to fix. Giants fans only talk about how good they are and how much they love their players and how excited they are to watch Panda or Pence or The Freak. They don’t dwell on slumps or injuries or, “can’t.” It seems like that is all we as Braves fans talk about; Uggla sucks, BJ was a horrible deal, Heyward can’t hit, get rid of Freddie… After watching the Giants win year after year for 13 years and seeing their die-hard fans, I can’t help but wonder if Braves fans loved their team like the Giants fans love theirs, that maybe we could win a playoff series.

    Danny Says:

On #10, Jeff, you make a good point. Whether its the Braves, Falcons, or Bulldogs, Georgia fans are pissed at anything less than perfection. We could learn a lot from other fans.

However, I think these expectations are what keep us near the top. Not sure if that’s what keeps our teams from the summit. Sometimes 5 yards from a championship or a fly-ball from a playoff win is just way more frustrating than last place.

    Adam Says:

We should have won both those games against the red sox. I really want to crush them in Fenway now.

    Curt Says:

    Jeff –

Braves fans would be in a lot happier mood if we had won 2 of the last 4 championships. Falcons fans would be a lot happier if the team had scored from 10 yards out and we had played for and won a SB. UGa fans would be in a much better mood if the team had scored from 5 yards out beaten ND to win a national championship. Hawks fans would be in a better mood if we could actually get out of the second round of the playoffs, or make a good pick in the draft. Thrashers fans would be happy if the owners hadn’t sold the team. Etc, etc, etc. And I am ALL of those. And I am bitter about all of it. ONE championship for all the pro teams. UGA has one football crown from 80 (they should have won 2, maybe 3, and then one or two more recently). Tech won one in 90 and now can’t get much better than .500. How bitter were Boston fans before this glut over the past 10-12 years? And how many did they get before that?

Atlanta can’t win the big one. And whether that’s the Braves, Falcons, Hawks, Dawgs, Jackets, Dream, Thrashers, Flames, whoever, it all hurts. And worse is that so many of these teams show little sign of actually winning us a championship. I think, all things considered, the Atlanta fans actually show great resolve in coming back every year KNOWING they are going to be disappointed.

That and going to a stadium on the Bay is a little more exciting than one parked on the side of the interstate.

    Saunders, is that you?

  14. 14
    Jeff Says:

Yes it is Curt. Love the show guys. What up Ham?

  15. 15
    jo-bu Says:

Excellent response, Curt! I was a big time Thrashers fan and what a mess that ASG group made of that instance of an NHL franchise. Looks like funneling all of that money toward the Hawks still has not paid off for the ASG.

    Go Flames!

    Will Says:

We have Outkast, julia roberts and the Varsity! Get offa my lawn!

    Steve Says:

Soooooo unhappy about the last two days. Giving two games away.

I have no expectation of good things in Boston.

  19. 19
    Ham Says:

Whaddup, Jeff. Nice to see you around!

(That’s the only positive thing i have to say right now, so I’ll leave it there.)

  20. 20
    Steve Says:

    La Stella!

  21. 21
    Leah Says:

How is Uggla not released of his duties? Who was sent down? Is it bad that I hope no Brave plays in the Allstate game? So many questions????

  22. 22
    Shaun Says:

Leah, probably either Gattis or Simmons are going on the DL. Bowman Tweeted that Uggla is in Boston. But I guess you never know.

  23. 23
    Shaun Says:

Oh, nevermind. Just saw Pastornicky is demoted.

  24. 24
    Steve Says:

@23 – Which is right. He’s looked bad. Tentative in the field and not making it at the plate. I feel terrible for him, though. 2nd shot and no luck. May be a AAAA player.

@21 – I firmly believe they’re still holding out hope that Uggla will string together a few good at bats in his spot starts or PH appearances and that they can trade him for 30 cents on the dollar in July.
