I think Hart is gonna keep Justin on the team for respectability up until the All Star break. Then he will trade him. But I agree Steve just trade him now so we can get as much as we can. The Mariners seem desperate but 2015 will be like the Braves of the 80’s. Rough year ahead.

Heyward said he wasn’t ever approached with a long term contract. He made it clear he wanted to stay. All this time I’ve heard that it was Heyward and his representation that didn’t want to sign here long term and wanted too much money. Somebody is lying and its probably the Braves.

    What a dumpster fire.

I just think the Braves weren’t comfortable paying what they knew Heyward would want and will likely get once he hits free agency. You know some team out there is going to be willing to pay him based on his value with the defensive metrics and based on his potential, while the Braves probably didn’t want to be that aggressive and take the chance without him showing a little more. So I think they just didn’t really approach him, knowing what it would likely take to sign him long term.

I can’t blame either side. If the Braves are going to continue to operate on a limited, mid-range payroll budget, I can’t blame them for not taking a risk and breaking the bank for the unknown that is Heyward’s future. Is he a star? A superstar? Is he *merely* a great player? A very good player?

I can’t blame Heyward for wanting what he knows he can likely get on the open market, or something close to it. Regardless of what he actually is, some team is going to pay him based on the potential we all know he has and the overall value he brings.
