Former GM Jim Bowden of ESPN expects the Braves to be 10 on his 1-to-10 aggressiveness scale. Not surprising. He mentions extending Justin Upton, but I don’t know about that.
Here’s his write-up of the Braves in his Winter Meetings preview:
Atlanta Braves
Biggest team needs: Center field, second base, relief pitching, top-of-rotation starter, bench, extending Justin Upton’s contract
Free agents they could be interested in: Luke Gregerson, Pat Neshek, David Ross, Mark Ellis, Jonny Gomes
Trade options: Any number of options from Seattle, Kansas City, Texas, Cleveland, San Francisco, Baltimore and the White Sox
Players on the block: Justin Upton, Evan Gattis
Aggressiveness scale: 10

I actually think there is a good chance Heyward would have taken 17 or 18 mil for next 5 years. That sets him up age 29\30 to get the 8 year 20 mil + AAV contract.

Walker @28 – I’m not so sure. He’s going to get $20 million a year so I doubt he would have settled for $17-$18 million a year in hopes that he would get the $20 million a year later. I’m sure he’s hope for that $20 million (or more) AAV for as many years as he can get, and he’s not pushing it off until later.

There’s some good Braves stuff in the middle of this podcast episode. The hosts ponder what direction the Braves are taking.
