I have enjoyed watching the defense most of all this year. With exception to the outfield, the infield looks real good. As Bethencourt begins to “get his feet wet” that could make the pitching that much better. If he can “get hot” offensively, he’s got good bat speed and potential power. I hope I’m wrong, but I fear Simmons offensive numbers go down as season progresses and fatigue sets in. I just hope Simmons stays healthy. Though Peterson hit poorly last week, I really like him and hope they stick with him. I’m encouraged by new batting approaches. I don’t want ex-Braves to fail, though I don’t want to see Jason become “all-world ” after leaving ATL.

Steve, Schuerholz seems like a nice guy and a good baseball man but I agree on the Schuerholz stuff. If Wren was a problem and ran off all these smart baseball people, why didn’t Schuerholz step in and do something when all that was going on? I think it’s tacky the way that whole thing went down (as you can tell by my blog post).

Wren may very well deserved his fate, and it seems the organization is in better shape now, not just from the talent on the field they’ve acquired but in terms of the evaluators they brought back. But instead of framing it as Schuerholz, Hart, and Cox riding in to save The Braves Way, how about taking some of the blame and saying, “we learned from our mistakes and we’re doing things better”? I would have much more respect for Schuerholz if he said something like that. I’ve lost a bit of respect for him with the way this all played out.

    It’s just tacky.

For the record, I didn’t know they were celebrating his 50th year in baseball until Hammy mentioned it on the show. Which lessens my issue with it, somewhat. But still, it is the typical Schuerholz arrogance to completely distance himself from the “bad job” that Wren did when he put him in that position to begin with and, by all accounts, should have been ultimately responsible for all moves, culture problems, etc as the President of the org.

Should have been Hank Aaron or even someone like Bill Bartholomay, assuming he would have been able.

Anyone see the Fredi “my team’s a bunch of hyenas” quote? Is that real? He said that?
    (saw it on DOBs twitter)

Saw it. His version of “dirt dogs,” I guess.

Those last two games against the Marlins have scared the hell out of me. It feels like the 3 hit team yesterday is much more indicative of the team we have this year than what we saw last week.

I think this week really shows what we should expect. When facing good pitching we will not score alot so, the pressure is on our pitching. When facing average pitching we will barrel the ball and make the other’s team defense try to beat us. Plus, I was honestly shocked at how many homers we got this week.
