Some funny stuff from Sportsline on the home team. Ranking them 19 in this week’s useless power rankings:
We can talk all we want about the Braves’ starting-pitching depth and how Tommy Hanson looks so awesome that I plan to name my first daughter Thomasina Hanson Dobrow, but the bottom line is that they don’t score enough damn runs. Until they get at least one hitter of moderate impact, we can only mete out so many Power Rankings air-kisses. We’re not cheap, you know … They’re all-business on the trade front, with rumors circulating about dealing Yunel Escobar or Javier Vazquez for an individual whose primary skill is making contact with pitched balls … This isn’t to dump on the excellently crusty Bobby Cox, but it’s amazing that it took him this long to see what has been apparent to everyone else for 18 months now: that Jeff Francoeur sucks. Platoon issues or no, Matt Diaz is the better choice.

Good win tonight. And God bless McCann for figuring out how to hit and drive men in again. Lots of good, long at bats tonight, too. Brooks Conrad looks damn, damn good. So, after another typically lackluster showing by Frenchy, is he back in tomorrow? I say no.

Steve, meet Bobby Cox. Bobby, Steve.

I agree with Steve. I have to believe Bobby’s learning from recent change in managing skills (aka the no crying in baseball approach).

Only team in the NL East to win today! How bout them apples

I fell asleep on the couch just after we went up 2-1 and woke up expecting us to have lost 6-2…the Braves are giving me nightmares!
What a nice surprise! Heres to the first half having been a dream and us crawling back. Lets win this Cubs series first.

I am back on the “turnaround” bandwagon. Huge win last night. Today’s game is huger.

Bub – I know, I know. But here’s the thing. I think that Bobby’s conflicted, scared, and confused. His baseball acumen tells him he’s got to bench Frenchy. But his grandfatherly heart can’t yet pull the trigger in a definitive, Kelly-like way. So he’s going to just swap he and Diaz depending on performance. Frenchy should have had a 0 – 4 last night (his hit was very cheap). And Frenchy’s appearance followed Diaz’s 0 – 4 on Monday. I’m telling you – this is how it’s going to go for a while.

I’m just going to copy and paste this until Diaz is the starter.
Oh, and I am all for dumping on Bobby.

.5 games over the mighty Mets. Reaching for a lifeline here. MUST win tonight or I’m joining Curt’s camp.

Dammit! Frenchy is in there today. Well, he barely got a hit last night, so he deserves it.

Again, just a reminder of what’s important…
Norris Hopper Traded For Corky Miller by Ben Nicholson-Smith [June 26 at 12:36pm CST]
Tim Curtis of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds traded Norris Hopper to the White Sox in exchange for Corky Miller. Miller, a 33-year-old catcher, began his career with the Reds and played four seasons in Cincinnati from 2001-04. He’s played for four major league teams since, most recently for the White Sox. He’ll restart his Reds career in Triple A.

Well, that was lovely today, wasn’t it? The Cubbies being the Cubbies and the Braves being the lucky recipients. I’m glad I joined the Kawakami bandwagon back when he pitched that awesome game in May vs the Blue Jays.
Curt, with your cut ‘n pasting, I may step back and take some Diaz sloppy seconds because clearly you want him more. I’m not proud…

I was so afraid Frenchy was going to get a timely hit and actually make a difference. Whew…dodged a bullet there. I think Prado is my favorite player. Not only b/c he’s ‘da man but I love how he got mad when he didn’t pull the trigger on a great pitch today and then standing on 3rd clapping his hands when McLouth scored.

GO BRAVES!!! We took the series against the Cubs!!!
Nice to see KK back on track. Vasquez was filthy, he more than deserved that win last night (as well as in several other starts where he took no-no or loss). Call me seditious…but in all honesty we’re not gonna see Huddy at 100% until next season. We brought him in to be our ace, and if I remember correctly he was the #2 guy before he was put on the DL & had Tommy John surgery.
Even though (myself included) most of us fans love having him in a Braves uniform. I honestly don’t think he’s needed? Before he got hurt…he was our innings eater…but even as that, I don’t think he was quite what we wanted him to be. Bottom line? I’d put him out there on the trade market…chances are nobody will want to bite, because of what he’s coming back from. I’d put him out on the trade block before Javy Vasquez. I hope if Huddy does make a full recovery, he’s greater than the skeptics could even hope for.
Please understand I don’t want Hudson to go…a buddy of mine had a great idea that we could use him in the bullpen and then he can move back to the rotation next year. However as logic dictated to us 3 months ago…we need a big bopper in our lineup.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Leah – me too. I have a gigantic man crush on Prado. And I loved the clapping at 3rd as well. Good things continue to keep happening when he’s in there. I’m also with you on the whole Frenchy thing. I’ve really gotten to the point where I don’t want him to get a hit, because it will only cause further confusion for Bobby. It’s just gotten ridiculous. No more throwing him out there to try to drum up trade interest in him. Enough! He’s done. It’s done. Get Diaz in there because he gives us a better chance to win. Plain and simple.
BluesMan – I don’t think we would get nearly enough for Hudson – given the timing of his rehab. We’d be trading a guy that was still not ready to come back to the minors. Let’s trade Medlen and Jo Jo and get someone who’s a moderately good hitter – that will improve us dramatically.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
I want Werth. Think the Phils will trade Frenchy for Jason Werth? What about Frenchy, Jo Jo, and Medlen? I wish we still had Corky we could throw him in the mix.

“I’m telling you – this is how it’s going to go for a while.”
Sorry, Steve, what was that? Didn’t catch it…
Go Braves!

A Francoeur platoon: Diaz against lefties and righties, Frenchy against everyone else.
July 9th, 2009 at 1:15 am
I’m seriously going to lose my damn mind if Bobby doesn’t stop running him out there. I should have stayed on my sabbati…. sabatta…. on vacation.
Alright, I’m drunk posting.
Spiraling… spiraling…

Man, this site doesn’t play around with the extra dots on ellipses, does it? You put a fourth dot in there, your little sentence is OVER.
“and then I go ‘dot-dot-dot,’ you know, like in poetry…”

“A Francoeur platoon: Diaz against lefties and righties, Frenchy against everyone else.” Oh, Bub, that’s some FUNNY.
July 9th, 2009 at 10:49 am
KJ hit a home run to beat the Durham Bulls last night. He’s…back?
July 9th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Banter on the sportstalk radio this morning had the Braves packaging Kotchman and Jurrgens (what?) for someone like Adrian Gonzalez. They were seriously discussing throwing JJ into a deal that in no way even assures the playoffs, let alone something more.
My worry is if you do something like Escobar/Medlen for Holiday/Cabrera, you are not helping yourself much because you take away one of the few ‘power’ sources on the team and replace him with a slightly better one, but does this really upgrade your offense?
July 9th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Kelly is back. Let’s put him in right.
Bub, seriously, I’m sitting at my desk thinking about seeing Frenchy back in the lineup tonight and I am getting absolutely furious. Really, really mad. Doesn’t Bobby know he’s not jurt hurting the team. He’s hurting members of the general public, too.
