Steve, here’s the word from DOB:

OK, here’s the deal: If Jeff Francoeur is in the lineup tonight in RF instead of Matt Diaz, I’ll try to find a creative way of asking Bobby Cox why.
Diaz is 13-for-26 (.500) with three doubles, a homer and five RBI in his past eight games, but didn’t start the last two in Chicago after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the series opener, which snapped his string of five consecutive multi-hit games.
Francoeur, in that same stretch since June 30, is 5-for-26 (.192) with one double, one RBI, six strikeouts and no walks. He’s 3-for-21 with no extra-base hits or RBI in his past five games. Oh, and for what it’s worth, Francoeur has a .213 average with one homer in 47 at-bats at Coors Field.

And of course Frenchy IS in the line-up.

And of course there is no report of any hard question being asked of the old man.

This is horrible. Just freaking horrible. I’m seriously starting to want us to lose about ten in a row just so the likelihood of extending Bobby goes down a hair. Whoever it was who said they’re gonna root for the Reds if Bobby comes back, crank up a Reds Podcast, cuz I’ll be right there with you. It’d be fun. Closet Braves fans riding out the Bobby storm by following another team. That’s… podcast/ blog history right there.

Do you guys think Bobby looks at stats/ splits at all for these decisions? At all?

    Bubdylan Says:

    lol at DOB.

“Well… it was as you can imagine.”

    Curt Says:

Bud, I have gone beyond believing that Bobby Cox really has a clue. I will also be curious to see if Kelly goes back in the lineup when he comes back to the team. I’d rather Brooks Conrad stay up here. But it really is astonishing that Francoeur continues to play at all.

http://www.cincybaseballtalk.com – this week we talk about injuries to Jerry Hairston and whether Dusty Baker should get the damn toothpick out of his mouth. Does he eat BBQ before every game?

    Bubdylan Says:

Ugh. Vazquez is hurt. Out till after the break.

    What else?

  6. 56
    Bubdylan Says:

Curt, that’s funny. (Except I’m so dumb I actually clicked the link…)

  7. 57
    Curt Says:

Hopefully Jo Jo is back and ready to go.

Maybe Medlen is inspired by his buddy and strings some nice starts together – and then we can use him in a trade to get something we need.

  8. 58
    Steve Says:

Curt – While the Vazquez new is BAAAAAAAD, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. Medlen has a great game on Sunday and it improves his trade value. I’m reaching, obviously.
And now – Frenchy. I’m at an absolute loss at this point. I can’t even, in my best non-fan, super-objective pretend place fathom how Bobby is putting him out there. I get that Diaz is not the answer. And I get that Diaz if not really an everyday player. But Frenchy is a freaking never should be played player. Amazing that Frenchy’s inability to hit the ball squarely in the second actually worked in his favor and led to his RBI. Classic.

    Steve Says:

Do you think some of the guys on the roster get pissed now when they see Frenchy in the lineup? They must, right?

  10. 60
    Bubdylan Says:

    Frenchy with an RBI double.

*stabs own head with dinner fork*

  11. 61
    Leah Says:

Of course Frenchy hit an RBI double and then comes in to score. Come on kid…let this be your turn around…you can do it…ugh. Trade him quick! What’s up with Tommy?

  12. 62
    Anne Says:

…that did us no good. Thanks, ‘lil Tommy, for making that Frenchy RBI double mean nothing, ergo making us all feel slightly better.

  13. 63
    Steve Says:

Bobby’s explanation about why Frenchy is in there tonight, “I’m just trying to get Frenchy another shot at this thing.” And by that Bobby means another shot at getting his BA down into the .230’s before the All-Star Break.

  14. 64
    Leah Says:

AGAIN! My son just asked why I sighed. Bobby and Frenchy are confusing my 8 year old!

  15. 65
    Steve Says:

I’m angry that Frenchy just got his second hit of the game. This is what it has come to.

  16. 66
    Leah Says:

We’re a sad buncha fans Steve.

  17. 67
    Anne Says:

I’m imagining Steve screaming at his TV “Bob-bayyyy!!” in a high Whitney Houston to Bobby Brown kinda way. Am I close??

  18. 68
    Steve Says:

The kids are asleep, so I can’t go with the initial screaming at the TV instinct. It’s more of a bite the inside of my cheek until it bleeds … whereby giving me something else to think about approach.

  19. 69
    Leah Says:

I don’t know if you guys follow Curt’s tweets but a few weeks ago during a particularly frustrating game he tweeted, “If the Braves don’t score here I’m going to wake up my children and spank them.”. I laughed so hard…funniest tweet to ever touch my feed.

  20. 70
    Bubdylan Says:

“If the Braves don’t score here I’m going to wake up my children and spank them.”

    That’s pretty hilarious.

  21. 71
    Leah Says:

    Have a double Frenchy.

  22. 72
    Bubdylan Says:

Frenchy with a third hit. That’s like three weeks batting .400 in Bobbyland.

If any one of you… ANY. ONE. OF YOU.

… starts to write stuff about him maybe turning it around “for real” this time…

…I’m going to mow down a McDonalds.

  23. 73
    Leah Says:

…while kids play in the playland. Come on Gonzo, 3 up 3 down. Is it just me or is this a weird ball game? I don’t know if it’s all the pitching changes or Frenchy hitting that little round white piece of leather coming toward home plate. It just seems strange.

  24. 74
    Bubdylan Says:

  25. 75
    Anne Says:

I think Leah has hit on something…the ABT drink of choice to drown our collective sorrows: a Double Frenchy (straight up).
