Curt – the score was already tied. Did Gonzo really need to manufacture more pressure with the walk and the hit batsmen? Very tense over here.

    Bubdylan Says:

A Double Frenchy: one part grapefruit juice, one part buttermilk, 7 parts O’Douls that went out of date in 2006.

    Cheers

    well….. there ya go.

    Steve Says:

Gonzo’s gotten shakier and shakier with each of his last few starts. Bad, bad, bad.

    Bubdylan Says:

Everybody guess how many pitches the offense sees in the 9th. I’ll go with 8.

    Leah Says:

Dude is tired. Come on All Star break which is the only way Gonzo will get a day off. Did you hear on MLB.tv the announcers talking about a hitter getting benched for hitting .248? Who’da thunk it? Question: does GA even want to play baseball? He looks so bored.

    Curt Says:

    Wha happened?

the Braves are like my golf game, sad.

I was going to write more eloquently about how there is never a time when all the pieces are working together, but they are just sad. And tiresome. Maybe watching the Braves should be like my golf, something i pay attention to twice a year. Hanson was due for a shaky start, but the bullpen has to do their job. We don’t score 6 runs often.

    Curt Says:

Is it me or does it seem that every time Francoeur has a big game, the Braves lose. He’s like Iverson. If Iverson scores 65 points. you know his team has lost.

    Anne Says:

Holy good lord — Ryan Church!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m tossin’ back a double Frenchy.

    Leah Says:

Are we happy? Please tell me we’re happy…cause I feel happy! I’m gonna say it…I’m happy!

    Bubdylan Says:

Fair or Foul: Bubdylan just ran circles in his front yard laughing like Spongebob Squarepants.

    Fair.

Bye, buddy. If I weren’t so happy, I’d say something spiteful like “have fun with that New York crowd and that awful field, Mr. Parkview can’t-do-wrong. Maybe accept your next (inevitable) demotion with a little class.”

    Ooops, said it anyways.

    :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

    Will Says:

whad we get? a bag of bats ?

  14. 89
    Curt Says:

Ryan Church, who is Frenchy with a slightly better OPS and a slightly worse throwing arm.

    Steve Says:

Curt – c’mon man. You gots to be happy about this. Good God, I am. I was so double extra bummed after Frenchy’s 3 doubles last night. Bobby was going to run him out there for the rest of the freaking year based on last night.
And not only did we get rid of him (which seemed REALLY unlikely), we got more than a low level prospect for him. What seemed more than likely was that he just got non-tendered at the end of the year and we get nothing (plus suffering through him the rest of this season). And Church, here’s his BA/OBP/SLG/OPS against RHP: .282/.355/.468/.822 And here’s Diaz’s against LHP: .333/.369/.509/.878. Looks like a VAST improvement in RF to me.

And, most importantly, Frenchy’s gone. No more getting mad at the line-up for that anymore. Again – the team has added by subtracting.

    Leah Says:

The real question is what to do about the French redemption track? And more importantly…what’s Bobby gonna call him? Churchy? Is it a big deal that he’s older? How will the fans treat poor Jeffrey? My mind is exploding. I’m going to the game next Thursday night, I’m even more excited now that Jeff will be in a Met’s uniform.

  17. 92
    Leah Says:

I just read where Jeff said he’s excited about playing in front of sell out crowds. Does he know they will boo him?

  18. 93
    Curt Says:

I’m not going to suggest that we should have kept Franceour, buy I feel sorry for him. I can’t imagine a worse place for him to go. NY is going to kill him and having met him, he is a really nice guy. I would hate for his career to be ruined by NY. I don’t want him playing for us, but I don’t wish ill will on him either. It really shows that the Braves were willing to do anything to get rid of him, and that is a sad state for he and the team. Bring on Churchy.

We can do the Frenchy career spiral tracker.

  19. 94
    Leah Says:

When you start to feel bad for him Curt just remember he was less than 100% truthful when he met you.

  20. 95
    Bubdylan Says:

Curt, I hear you. And I’m tempted to feel bad for him, too. But for two years in a row he drug the money stuff out in the offseason to an unbelievable end. And you can say “it’s a business” but the other players are in a business, too. And none of them had their salaries forced or had the nerve to drive the arb-year negotiations into the ground after putting up an absolutely shameful year.

And he whined like a baby for being sent down when he was terrible… TERRIBLE… and came right close to whining for being benched this year. And that’s not a class act. The guy is a dunderhead, but even dunderheads have the power to be humble when their team needs them to be. Think of the way Kelly and Schafer treated their send-downs.

Sorry, but good riddance to a hard-headed cancer. I have a feeling Wren feels a huge weight off his shoulders.

    Steve Says:

From Rob Neyer at ESPN: So, let’s review: The Braves got a decent hitter and fielder who bats left-handed, and thus can platoon (or semi-platoon) with Matt Diaz in right field. The Mets got … what, exactly? If you figure it out, drop a line to Jerry Manuel. He’s going to need all the help he can get with this one.

  22. 97
    Anne Says:

D Lowe, Acosta, O’Flaherty and now Soriano have made me happy. Bye, bye Frenchy. Buy some ear plugs, cuz you’ll need them waaaaaay out there all alone in RF. It is sad, truly…but not for the Braves.

  23. 98
    Bubdylan Says:

Ugh, Philly came back from down 7-3 in the 9th and won 8-7. That is one amazing offensive team. I can’t stand it.

    Lol @ Frenchy: 2 hits, 2 RBI’s. Butthole.

    Here’s what needs to happen:

    1. Frenchy catches fire for about a month.
    2. Braves fire Terry Pendleton.
    3. Frenchy returns to Suckville forever.

    Yeah.

  24. 99
    Steve Says:

A fast start by Frenchy will only make his ignominious decline even worse.
This is a very funny (and dead-on, in my opinion) take on the Frenchy trade. http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/oracle/discussion/mets_acquired_francoeur/

    Leah Says:

Steve, that article is hilarious. I’m ready for another podcast! I can’t wait to hear fair or foul…is Churchy enough to help turn this team around? Plus I’m tired of having to scroll down for 5 minutes to get to the latest comments. However, they’re always worth it. Defense tonight (with the exception of GA never backing up McLouth) was stellar.
