One more thing, in this year of frustrated hopes, three more games just like last night, when Frenchy fails and the Braves win… would go a long way toward easing the pain.

A pox on the first Braves pitcher to give him more than one in the strike zone with less than three balls.

    Curt Says:

    Paging Manny Acosta

    Curt Says:

As I sit here, mega kudos to Schuerholz on the Horacio Ramirez for Soriano deal. Holy crap what a lopsided trade that has turned out to be.

    Will Says:

A French Fry is when you fry the two men on base by popping up on a 3-1 count trying to golf swing on a low slider that would have been ball four. How many times did that nimwit do that…

    Leah Says:

Curtis…you couldn’t let me have one Ray of sunshine? Go Braves!

  6. 56
    Curt Says:

    I’m nothing if not consistent.

  7. 57
    Hamilton Says:

A French Kiss is where someone goes in for the kiss, but consistently licks the side of your face and parts of your chin instead. Occasionally, they’ll make contact with actual tongue, but it is usually right before someone walks in the room.

    Steve Says:

By the way, I think the guy who picked the Braves on ESPN yesterday was Skip Bayless. Who, I’d contend, is worse than every guy that Curt listed.

    Anne Says:

Leah, I’ll bail you out whenever, as I said…and I’m now remembering you said Maddux number retirement night, not yesterday…so have an AWESOME time tonight. My message to Francoeur is: keep on keepin’ on. Oh, and I’ll see him Sunday.
You’re all clearly forgetting the French Lick…but then it’d just get filthy(-er than this thread already is).

    Leah Says:

Hamilton’s comment trumps Curt’s spanking of the children tweet. Still laughing. Can’t wait for the game! Please win!

    Leah Says:

Parking tips? They sent us around the world and back and now everything is full. Very sad right now help!

  12. 62
    Leah Says:

Finally! After bribing a parking attendant I’m in my seat. I am however a retard who looked at her ticket wrong. I’m behind GA…joy. Well I heard Maddux’s # retired.

  13. 63
    Curt Says:

Is it possible we under appreciated Maddux?

  14. 64
    Will Says:

Steve & Curt are right on YE- yet another brilliant defensive game …and more solid offense. This guy has got to stay. He and Bobby should go iron things out over a pitcher of margaritas at Jaliscos in Peachtree Battle. As long as there is a designated driver.

  15. 65
    Will Says:

Curt – I don’t think so…. are you serious? I hope he joins the organization somehow..

  16. 66
    Anne Says:

I’m putting my Leah bail money instead toward a one-way ticket for poor Jeffy back to New York. After a while I was begging the cameraman to just look elsewhere. So, so dejected sitting in the Mets dugout. What a game…go Braves.

  17. 67
    Curt Says:

I’m serious. Do you remember any discussion when he left? Did we cry that they didn’t resign him? Not that he was still on top of his game, but there was no fanfare. Even when he retired, it just really wasn’t that big of a deal. And this is one of the greatest pitchers ever. They said that his back-to-back sub 1.60 ERA seasons were the first since Walter Johnson. Not Randy Johnson, Walter Johnson in 1918 or something. The stats are insane. I’m just not sure he is truly appreciated.

  18. 68
    Steve Says:

Curt I agree with you 100%. I think what made it easier for him to go and the lack of fanfare (from a Braves fan perspective) were his meltdowns in the post season. Starting with his loss in the ’96 WS, he went 5 – 8 and lost his final 3 post season starts with us. It made his departure easier for me. I remember being ready for him to go. I know. It sounds impossible to say that now.

    Steve Says:

I was at the game tonight. What a freaking joy. How great it was to see the Mets keep Pelfrey in there and basically concede the game by the 4th. It’s like the start of the Phillies series all over again with all this offense. You forget what it’s like to watch this team and have them hit. And yeah Anne, I didn’t see the scenes of Frenchy on the tv broadcast, but there was one at bat where he grounded out to the end the inning (4th or 5th inning-ish) and he just walked around the infield, away from everyone, looking really dejected.

We’ve turned it around! I know, I should be embarrassed to even write it, but I believe it to be true.

  20. 70
    Leah Says:

So glad I didn’t have to body slam him…having to dig Mac’s double out of the corner and then getting his glove on the homer had to be tough. And what about Yuni’s defensive moves especially with the funny hop? And Churchy comin on strong with the sliding catch? Btw Anne don’t be jealous but Matty tipped his hat at me during the 8th when I hollored his name.

  21. 71
    Steve Says:

Oh – and the Maddux number retirement was fantastic. He was choked up. The place went absolutely ape for him. It was great. It seemed pretty cathartic for the crowd. We’ve had Smoltz and Glavine (and even Frenchy) taken from us this year, but we could pour our hearts out to Maddux. The crowd seemed extra appreciative.

  22. 72
    Leah Says:

Oh and it was a little awkward when Glavine’s interview about Maddux came on the jumbotron. The entire crowd hung our collective head in shame.

  23. 73
    Will Says:

Steve – and wasn’t it sort of the same with Glavine in the postseason/probably Braves in general. Feared throughout the year, and on average come out ahead, but the starters were gotten to by streaky hitting. Curt – I think in general Braves fans are rightly criticized for being luke warm/less enthusiastic than they should be (taking all this great pitching basically for granted) and in general the Braves organization is know for being too cold hearted towards their greats. So I guess I do see what you mean and I agree. It wouldn’t change anything by putting him in the front office but it would be cool. I hope they do something…

  24. 74
    Will Says:

known for being cold hearted, that is

  25. 75
    Anne Says:

Saw a clip on the late news last night of Maddux at the luncheon ceremony and one of his comments was something like, “I look forward to coming back one day for Glavine and Smoltzy…” and there were a few uncomfortable coughs from the crowd as he kept talking. AWK ward…

Leah: Seriously? It was hard enough releasing him from Curt’s fast grip, but I’m up for it. I offer to bail you out iffin you needs it, and then you gots to go toe-to-toe with me for Matty D? Girl fight!! I’m removing my hoop earrings and press-on nails. It’s on.
