    Chris in Boston Says:

Yeah, that would be great to have him in the broadcast booth. Then, between batters, we can get to hear him extrapolate on how gay marriage is the same as bestiality.

    Anne Says:

C in B: OUCH!! (but hilarious) (but not) I try to forget that personal opinion stuff about our men in uniform…baseball or otherwise. NOT cool, agreed.

    Steve Says:

Back to the blown save last night – I don’t know how you play it any different. You’ve got to bring Soriano in for that situation. It’s the tone setting first game of this crucial series against baseball’s best team. And those first two hits were cheapies. You’re really going to pull him after that? No way. He’s our closer. He’s the best arm in the bullpen. He just made a sh*tty pitch. It was horrible and soul crushing, don’t get me wrong …

    Steve Says:

Brutal! You just knew that crazy phantom strike call/walk/non-caught stealing was going to kill us. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge!!!!!!!

    Leah Says:

If we’re gonna lose, fine. But do we have to lose due to horrible, stupid, I forgot my glasses and I hate the Braves bad calls?

  6. 31
    Steve Says:

Nevermind. The game was, clearly, never in doubt. What a win! Nice to feel good about the team for a few hours. Now to worrying about KK …

    Leah Says:

Woke up this morning and shocked by the win! Had to watch the end of the game on even knowing the outcome. Does that make me strange, ill, obsessed? Great win. I like that they have to rethink who will pitch on Sunday. Oh KK…please KK…pretty please?

    Curt Says:

    So I’m at a 2

    Anne Says:

I’m still a 3, since I started at 3. …am going to the Turner Field box office today, regardless, to buy tickets for self and friends later in August.

I’m going to the SF Bay Area to see my mom mid-August…debating seeing whether the Giants or A’s (or both) are in town while I’m there. The Coliseum I know well, but I’ve never been to AT&T Park or whatever the Giants call their new-ish park these days.

    BluesMan Says:

My God. If tonight’s game isn’t a sign of tangible hope, than I don’t know what is. KK proved that he can step up when needed, & so did Kris Medlen. Escobar redeemed his lazy play earlier in the game by getting the last out (brilliantly). Here are the ‘mighty Dodgers,’ and the Braves find themselves amid doubt and having to go through LA and beat down the Dodgers to build towards a possible post season run.

I still don’t understand why so many people are down on KK, have people forgotten that he’s the one Braves starter that’s had the worst run support? 4 out of 5 times you’ll get a quality start out of him & he’ll keep us in ballgames. The other 1 out of 5…zero control, & too many walks. I think he’ll be a better pitcher next year.

I think that the Braves can do it I really do. The only team I have concerns about are the Nats…that’s the one team that we should be able to knock around like a red-headed stepchild, but we can’t. That’s weird. And the Nats have won 7 straight now I think? We can’t afford to lose the series against them. It would be the albatross that could inevitably doom any of our hopes for a postseason bid.

Can we make it to the postseason? I absolutely believe we can…the past two games should be all-telling evidence of that. I hope the Marlins get swept in their next series, & Philadelphia is swept by the Cubs, that’ll put us in a great position to move ahead in the East.

    Leah Says:

Bluesman, I hope you’re right. You are a good balance for Curt but I can’t handle the stress of speculating any more. I’m in wait and see mode. Could they do it if everyone stays healthy and hot? Yes, especially with Hudson and Infante in the wings. But will everyone stay healthy and hot? Time will tell.

    Bubdylan Says:

When the Braves play great ball, it only makes it sting worse knowing that Bobby will sabotage whatever chances they might have. Soriano is tired. Medlen is coming along well; why couldn’t he have shouldered some of Sori’s load earlier this year??

Bobby reads no splits. None. If it gets more complex than the ol’ lefty versus righty, he doesn’t know it exists. I’ve seen it a dozen times in the last two years. Last night, we saw it again. Diory over Kelly even though Kelly is hitting over .350 against lefties. (Say defense if you like, but, please don’t tell me Bobby knows that split, cuz he doesn’t. I’ve heard splits mentioned to him in interviews and heard him say right out loud “huh, I did not know that…”)

Bobby’s team-wrecking hurts less when the team is nowhere near contending. The old man is killing me.

Soriano will be on the DL before September.

  13. 38
    Steve Says:

Anne – for the love of all that is holy, go to AT&T park. I’ve heard it’s just stunning.

And Bub – I hear ya, but this team can overcome Bobby’s x’s and o’s short comings. I really believe it. And did you see these last two games? Our teams from the last few years would have lost both of those games – without question (especially Friday night’s screw job). Players stepping up. The team not giving up. Something is different this year.

  14. 39
    Bubdylan Says:

Steve, it’s a much better team than last year. The “we’d have lost that one last year” games have been too many to keep up with. I have high hopes for a 5-9 games above .500 finish, maybe hold off the fish for second place. And that’s a nice year, especially with the future looking good on top of that.

It’s just that I think the team could get to the playoffs if the manager didn’t hurt the bullpen and create various other troubles for this (very good) ballteam. However, if we pull off a series win here in L.A. after dropping the first one in a heartbreaker, I’ll upgrade my playoff hopes to… uh… whichever number means “maybe if the Phils and Marlins play sub-.500 ball for 25+ games and Gonzo returns to form at the same Soriano shoots a rubber band out of his elbow.”

    Bubdylan Says:

    * at the same time Soriano…

  16. 41
    Steve Says:

Goose bump stuff here. Last night’s final out from a Dodger fan’s perspective:

And Bub – I certainly can’t defend much of any of Bobby’s bullpen management. I’m just so optimistic after these last two games I’m blind to it right now. Wearing my consecutive extra-inning victory goggles, fingers in ears, singing la la la.

  17. 42
    Leah Says:

Steve…great find! I could watch that over and over again.

  18. 43
    Curt Says:

    In the face.

Meanwhile, the Fish have been/are hammering the Phils in Philly, again.

  19. 44
    Steve Says:

    4 1/2 and 3 1/2 – what a weekend.

  20. 45
    Leah Says:

Don’t we play the phillies like 50 more times? Just 9 but it’s nice the Braves may have some control over their fate. Actually I’m a little more scared of the Marlins.

  21. 46
    BluesMan Says:

Great way to end the road trip, I gotta give props to how Kelly Johnson has been playing lately. I don’t know where ‘this’ KJ has been, but I hope this KJ sticks around & it isn’t just another set of streaks in the season for him.

I hope the Braves fans mob Turner Field for this home stretch & the Tomahawk Chop returns to being as intimidating as it used to be (that’s something that a user said commenting on last night’s game…& I had to repeat it).

I’m more worried about retarded umpires than I am the Marlins or the Nationals to be honest. They’ve hurt us more than anything else…Cooper & Hohn need to stay away from Braves games…PERIOD.

  22. 47
    Leah Says:

Yeah…feel free to lay into the umps during this weeks podcast. It will be theraputic to say the least. Any amount of foul language totally allowed!

  23. 48
    Bubdylan Says:

Great game & series. Javy and and KK really making me proud right now.

Looking forward to the new show.
