Good show. My head is a 6, heart is with you at 8. We got a glimpse of that offense. Lets see it consistently.
Fair or foul: They should throw at Hohn’s head. Fair all the way! Who can we lose for a few days…
Heres a good one:

You know what is f**king crazy is that, the catcher then takes a quick look at the Braves dugout with an “Oh Shit, did they just see me do that” look. It is very quick, but it is undeniable.
I guess the good news is that this is a clip from PTI, so obviously it wasn’t just a local issue. The crazy news is that MLB has not addressed this AT ALL. With all of the vigilance about PEDs and the “integrity” of the game flying around, I can’t believe that nothing more has been made of this. Even if they are taking care of this in-house, MLB needs to make a statement that this is not tolerable.
I agree with Will. Remember that GA high school game where the pitcher/catcher conspired to bean the umpire in the head with an errant fastball (http://sportsbybrooks.com/high-school-umpire-may-have-been-hit-by-ball-on-purpose-18034).
We should do that to Hohn, but about 10 times extra. Craziness.

I’m a 7.5. I feel a little better about Adam being back. I think I felt such appreciation for how CK gave us something to be excited about during serious lack there of in early season it was hard to see him go. Then I remember he’s probably stoked about playing for the Rox. As far as Frenchy goes I really do want him to do well but I will always want the Mets to lose every game they play. Finally, I’m pissed about the fist bump. He never would have so much as returned the fist bump if he didn’t have a smidge of glee in the Braves defeat. Which solidifies suspicions of bad calls coming from an evil “hope the Marlins win” part of his heart.

are we still an 8 if we lose 2 of 3 to the Padres?
Escobar needs to suck it up and get back in the lineup. He’s really hurting the team right now not being in there.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Agreed, Curt. How can such a cocky so-n-so like him be such a baby? He’s a conundrum: the bravado is sooooooo over the top, and yet the hurt & indignation is, too. I’ll give him hurt & indignation by snatching his head bald of the frosted tips…
Leo Mazzone was drinking some serious “10″ Kool-Aid on 680 The Fan thismorning. He must still be paid by them residually. I say 3. Go Braves?!

Anne, he got hit by a pitch, no less. Prado took a liner during BP and missed 1 game. Escobar is now working on 4 games? Makes me want to rethink the whole ‘Ripken streak as an overrated accomplishment’ view I have.

There’s that offense we know and love. Obviously I’m seeing the wisdom in the 1st base trade. That leaping line drive catch the other night was very impressive. Not to mention the homerun and all the hits. It’s the little things that endear me to a player. These West coast games are killing me…so tired. Hope I packed something edible in my kid’s lunches today.
August 5th, 2009 at 9:01 am
Yeah, it is amazing how much more dynamic the team is with Escobar in there. And LaRoche has been killing it since he has come back.
Did anyone see the stat that albert Pujols is 7-9 this season with the bases loaded, including 5 grand slams? Is that good?

Being a fan of this year’s club is such a killer. April through June was this demoralizing, hopeless roller coaster. Then comes the rebirth of the team in July. And now these past 5 games. 2 and 3. We can still look soooooo bad and sooooo good. I feel great this morning after the drubbing last night. But could not have been more disheartened after game 1. I know I should have a point here, but I really don’t. I guess my point is that I’m ready for the 10 – 0 run this team desperately needs to go on. Tommy needs to dominate tonight. We must not lose this series. Need, need, need. Must, must, must.
August 5th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
I agree…almost afraid to watch. It’s good to see the Phillies slowing down a bit. I know they can’t keep winning EVERY game but I bet they pick it back up soon. We need that 10-0 streak now. Does BMac seem to be struggling a bit to you guys? And Chipper? What’s up with those guys? I won’t discuss the two double plays hit into by my good friend Matty D because he definitely made up for it.
August 5th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
DOB had some really bad stats about the whole team and their slump in the AJC yesterday. McCann is hitting .200 over this rough stretch. it goes up and downthe lineup, other than the man Martin Prado. McLouth, Diaz, GA, Mac = guilty.
And why is it that we go into a slide everytime the Phillies do? Great for not losing ground, not great for gaining any.
August 5th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
We SO need a W tonight. I know that we have had so many must win games this season that they are starting to lose any credibility, but WE MUST WIN TONIGHT. We cannot head up the coast after dropping 2 of 3 to the Pads and expect anything good to happen. Please please please. The win last night was classic Braves of late. Lose a bunch of stupid games and then have one offensive breakout. Unfortunately, if you have read this book before, the next chapter tends to be a little depressing. PLEEEEEEEEASE WIN TONIGHT.
Good to see Yuni back in the lineup.
August 5th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
Infante needs to heal more quickly. Yuni isn’t pulling out of his funk. He looks …off to say the least.

Today I had a root canal with no anesthetic. Then my mom was paralyzed in a car wreck running over my dog. My ex-girlfriend got married to my ex-ex girlfriend and my best friend is cheating on my sister with my current girlfriend.
Or, actually, I just watched Bobby Cox manage a baseball game. Same difference.

Get ready to see Smoltz get released, perhaps today. I don’t understand why it took this long, but Red Sox Nation has figured out that Smoltzie is done. Last night was brutal.
Thank goodness for the Red Sox taking Smoltz off our hands.
August 7th, 2009 at 10:18 am
I wanted to post earlier, but I can’t stop puking all over my keyboard. Last night was brutal. Utterly brutal. Soriano is going to have those innings every once and a while, but why did it have to be last night? Wolf was the guy we definitely had to beat. Crushing. What a horrible tone to set for the rest of the weekend.
Hope Meter has been temporarily unplugged.

Holy Shiitake mushroom that was a hard loss. When Moylan struck out Manny and we didn’t come back and score again I was worried. I went to bed in the bottom of the 9th with two on…just couldn’t watch Soriano blow it. I’m a 2 folks. Chippers hitting the ball but now The Macs and the Meadow can’t seem to do anything. I wish they would take the rest from the Dodgers but Curts about to tell me why they won’t and why being a 2 is optimistic.
August 7th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
You simply can’t lose that game. Moylan tried to give it away twice, and for him to get out of it only to have Soriano come in and be so ineffective. Heartbreaking. I don’t know what the answer is there, but how they continue to pitch to Ethier is beyond me. It’s like that Astros post-season series when we made Carlos Beltran $25 million. you have to pitch around the guy who is killing you. Regardless of the situation. And I know what looms in their lineup, but Manny has done nothing against us.
When Bobby managed the Blue Jays, he famously intentionally walked George Brett with the bases loaded one night. i would have taken giving up just 1 run last night. And yes, 2 is optimistic.
August 7th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
that would be $125 million for Beltran.
That one was a little rambling, but that game sickened me. Even more than the Marlins game he blew a week and a half ago. Soriano has a 10.13 ERA in his last seven appearances. I know he has been great, but he is clearly scuttling now and when it was evident he didn’t have it last night they should have gone with someone else. Or maybe he shouldn’t have been brought in at all. Pierre and Ethier are both lefties.
August 7th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
I agree a hundred percent. After just a few pitches I knew he was going to blow it. I think I’m finished hoping. I’ll enjoy the rest of the season more if I’m not consumed with how many games back we are. Ok…it’s official. Stick a fork in me. Go braves.
August 7th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
RIP John Smoltz the Red Sox.
August 7th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
He might view this as a slam but I’m totally serious. I loved it last year when he acted as a sports broadcaster for a few games. Or the bullpen like Curt said…either way.
August 7th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Did I ever publically say that I wished John Smoltz never pitched another major league game once he left us? I wish I had, because that’s what I told myself, anyway. He was SO GOOD in the broadcast booth. I’d be clamoring to hire him to comment if I had the power, and owned a station or three. Sad, sad end, you know??
