Wahooooooo!
August 12th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Thanks to the Cubs for getting their asses handed to them. So much for Pedro getting shelled. At least the Astros are winning. For now.
August 12th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Bub – that photo of Smoltz is pretty jarring.
What a game! And what a joy this line up has become. Even without McLouth it’s strong as hell. To be able to have Esco, GA and LaRoche in the bottom half. What a difference a few months makes. We’ll be tied for 2nd after tonight, people. Bring on the Phils.

Wahooo…again!
August 13th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Go Bravos!!! I love it.
August 13th, 2009 at 12:47 am
Curt – what will we do with the Phils? Odds of each outcome?
3-0?
2-1?
1-2?
0-3?
August 13th, 2009 at 9:02 am
3-0: 25%
2-1: 65%
1-2: 10%

Curt – that’s pretty damn optimistic. Hammy – apply your magical math skills and take Curt’s percentages and translate them into his coming show’s Post Season Hope Meter number.
August 13th, 2009 at 9:47 am
I’m nothing if not an eternal optimist.
August 13th, 2009 at 10:15 am
Somebody get Curt a Valium. I like how the Braves are off tonight and the Phillies have to play. I’m hoping for a very long, using a ton of pitchers type of defeat for the Phils. Are we scared of Pedro?
August 13th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Undecided on Pedro. If that was just his shaking-off-the-cobwebs start, then yeah, it could get difficult for the local Indian tribe very soon.
So, BEAT THEM NOW. CRUSH THEM.
August 13th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Did someone say Valium? *pulls out some cash*
August 13th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
I am personally not at all scared of Pedro. After all, he threw only 5 innings gave up 7 hits and three runs. He also had only one 1-2-3 inning which was against the 6, 7, and 8 hitters. 65% of pitches were strikes which is not great, but solid. Yet, even I can not quiet the little voice in the back of my head saying, “C’mon it is Pedro Martinez”.
I really hate that voice.

Stupid cubs.
August 13th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
I don’t see Pedro being more than a .500 pitcher for them. In fact, I see him getting hurt before the season is even over. Little guys did steroids too.
August 13th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
If Pedro hangs in there as a .500 pitcher, that’s going to suck. Happ should start to fade by Sept, and they’re really going to need someone to take the pressure off the other three.
August 13th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
If Cole Hamels continues to suck….and no way Joe Blanton keeps it going. Cliff Lee is pretty good. He worries me.
August 14th, 2009 at 12:42 am
Something has been off with Hamels all season. It’s late in the season for that to change. Here’s what Sept 1 should look like:
Lee being excellent
Hamels continuing to give up hits in bunches but hanging in there at .500
Blanton pitching like Blanton, which is respectable at #3
Happ fading badly and needing to be rested
Pedro – who knows?
This rotation unravels if Pedro can’t cut it.

Braves to the Phillies:
“I’m reloaded! Okay? Come on in here! Come on, I’m waitin’ for ya! … HERE COME DA PAIN!!!”

Bud, I was hoping it was going to be a Fat Joe video in honor of tonight.
August 14th, 2009 at 9:22 am
Jeez. BuB. i hate typing.

C in B – I hope you’re right about Happ fading. On the one hand he’s already pitched 4x the innings he’s ever pitched. On the other hand he pitched a complete game shut-out 9 days ago. I’d feel better if we saw signs of the fade already. And Pedro doesn’t really scare me either. He threw some great pitches those first four innings and then become really pedestrian in the 5th. I just don’t believe he will get stronger as the season goes on. But, to quote you, “who knows.”
And Bub – I am with you 1000%. There is a real swagger and confidence with this team that we’ve not seen in a long time. My excitement level for this series is ridiculous.
August 14th, 2009 at 10:27 am
I’m tempted to talk about my excitement over this series but I always seem to jinx the Braves when I do so you will all just have to read my mind. No doubt I will tell you all how it played out just as I predicted…in my head.
