The 2009 Braves have outscored opponents by 74 runs and won 79 games. The 2009 Marlins have outscored opponents by seven runs and have won 80.

So, what does it mean? Is it just a statistical result of lopsided Braves victories? Have the Marlins simply won more close games than we have?
September 21st, 2009 at 4:35 pm
It means that you should have won a lot more games than you have. It almost mirrors that quality start stat I had before. The team has been in the position to win a lot more games than 79. They have failed to seize the opportunities presented to them. It probably also means that you score a bunch of runs in a few games and lose a lot of 2-1 games.

This 1st inning against the Mets is killing me! I love these Braves!!!
Nice hustle Yuni…nice dinger GA…nice sac Chipper!!
Good show guys. And lets start with saying congrats on a great ABT season. I think I have been a fan for about 1 year now. This year had some incredible interviews. Good solid analysis. Ive learned alot…
Sadly, it has the feeling that this is the beginning of the end. Im about a 0.6, which I suppose is better than Curt.
September 21st, 2009 at 7:41 pm
I echo Will on Congrats to ABT. You guys make watching (or in my case, not-watching) an underachieving ballteam twist in the wind at the hands of an out-to-lunch manager quite tolerable.
Congrats, ABT! Best of luck going forward! (Gooooooo Reds…)

Laaaaryyy…
just had to.

Wow! I peeked at the score. Wow!
September 21st, 2009 at 8:01 pm
Wait, why is our run differential suggests a better record?
September 21st, 2009 at 8:01 pm
*why is it…
September 21st, 2009 at 9:41 pm
How would it not? Look at other run differentials and see how the records of the other teams outscoring their opponents by that much compare to that of the Braves. I’ll get back on this.
September 21st, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Sorry, Curt. I was kidding around, but it wasn’t clear. As in: “we’re getting another of our eight-run wins tonight, why is it our differential is so lopsided?”
September 21st, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Sorry. Long day. I’m edgier than usual.
September 21st, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Actually, a positive 70-80 run differential is fairly normal for teams 10-15 wins over .500.

Thanks Hammy for protecting my head. I greatly appreciate it. I’m jealous of you football die hards. I’m going to have to take up knitting or something. So bummed the season is almost over.
September 22nd, 2009 at 9:21 am
Thanks for all the kind words.
By the way, we’re trying to line up some interviews for the off-season as well. We’ve got Javy Lopez on the books so far…
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:13 am
He’s one of my all time favorites…so handsome…I mean super talented and athletic. I think you should interview BubDylan. If he can make time for you in his schedule.
September 22nd, 2009 at 4:28 pm
I’m with you, Leah. Football has zero appeal for me. I made a deposit on 2010 Braves season tickets just to make myself (and them) feel like it’s spring already.
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:04 pm
The core of this starting pitching is just amazing. Frank Wren has set us for some time. Now if we can just dump Derek Lowe on someone.
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Leah, you’re getting your wish. I’m actually Javy Lopez.
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:24 pm
I KNEW it!
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Not to repeat myself, but … this 10 of 12 run has been so tremendous and so depressing. Oh, to have that Reds series back. Great game tonight. JJ is just stunningly good.

In other words, ladies and gentlemen: I think we just might maybe have a possible shot.

Wiley- I would agree with you, but it looks like both the cards and dodgers will have clinched by the time the Rockies play them, not to mention that 8 out of 11 are in denver. I like your optimism though. If anything, let’s keep it interesting until the end.

The Atlanta Braves announced today that they have agreed to terms with manager Bobby Cox on a one-year contract extension through the 2010 season and that the team’s entire coaching staff will be brought back next year.
Hello third place.
