I do NOT understand! I want it back! I’ll make a deal Bub. If Damon ends up in a Braves uniform I can sort of understand you not wanting it out there (not really but I’ll trust you have your reasons). But if Damon does not end up in a Braves uni give us the song to laugh at! It will curve my very small disappointment.

Well the tigers offered Damon too just another Boras plot!If i was Wren i would not offer anymore than whats on the table. Its real simple, Damon could have a realistic shot at the playoffs or play for a team just for the money. This will determine for me if Damon really wants to be with a winner. It will also determine if money is everything to him,he has made plenty of money over his career ,more than i will ever make!

Stephan Curry triple double helz to the yelz

Will – why do you care about Stephen Curry? Did you go to Davidson? A place I applied, by the way. A very beautiful campus, as I remember.

MattChu – I think that the money vs. the winning thing is easy to be judgemental about when us common folk see 7, 8, and 9 digit earnings. But it’s all relative. And I think that as Americans, living in our capitalistic society, where money is king, it’s damn hard to leave money on the table in any situation. Also, with a nod to Dimino this week, the winning is often more important to us fans than it is to the players. Sad and cynical, but true, imo.

That looks like a whole lotta fun.
Check out the view from the dugout as snow falls at Turner Field. http://twitvid.com/5B11B

“the winning is often more important to us fans than it is to the players.”
This is surely true. Though I have to say that winning seems more important to most of the players than I would have predicted it would be if you just described the circumstance to me. I would have thought that if you gave a bunch of jocks millions of dollars to play a game, most of their competitive fire would die out and they’d adopt “just happy to be here” attitudes. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. It would be hard to fake the kind of excitement you see when teams get on a roll, and hard to fake the kind of blues that, for example, the Braves clearly exhibited the last couple of years when things fell apart.
Conversely, if we fans, by some freak circumstance, were awarded 10 million dollars to just watch broadcasts of our favorite team all year, win or lose, I doubt that seeing them lose would upset us so much.
So I give the players a little credit on this topic.

My husband tried to get an Atlanta Braves Snuggie for me for V’day. However, MLB doesn’t make snuggies for the Atlanta Braves. That’s sick and wrong.
Bub, I meant to tell you many comments ago, my favorite moment on the album is when The Perfect Space gets groovy. What is your very very favorite line or verse?

Steve – sorry for the nerd explosion. I did – Davidson class of 1992. Gorgeous campus, idyllic. But not much for sports. Cept for hunting and fishin after girls from Salem or UNC-Charlotte. Good times. Having Curry was fun- so unexpected.

Seems to me that motivation is more of an individual thing, particularly with pro athletes. I would hope that most guys would be motivated by the desire to win at all costs, particularly given how much money they make, but I don’t think that is always the case. It certainly, and I think most tragically, isn’t the case for owners. Look at the Royals. David Glass, their owner, is one of the richest guys in the world, and he could care less.
February 12th, 2010 at 10:02 pm
Ahem…Curt, you mean couldn’t care less. Sorry, pet peeve.
February 12th, 2010 at 10:30 pm
I’m snowver it. Bring on Spring! If I were paid 10 million dollars to watch i’d fund a big bat and the manufacturing of the Braves Snuggie. Then I’d be broke again and would care about wins and loses.

thought lord of the dance + Kurt Cobain + fiddles was kinda an odd choice – sad about the athlete who died on the luge. certainly these guys/galls are doing it to win, not for money…does that make it boring? Interesting…hadnt really thought of that.
February 12th, 2010 at 11:32 pm
my son is sitting here making fun of the French…..love it..
February 12th, 2010 at 11:34 pm
I love the Olympics. Ultimate compitition. Ultimate diversity.
February 12th, 2010 at 11:37 pm
yes….we like diversity…sorry for my non p.c. post about the French..it was too easy…my son then says “is that a man?” to KD Lang…
Olympics good. KD Lang good. All good…
February 12th, 2010 at 11:39 pm
Will, check out “Maritime and French Canadian Fiddling”. A huge part of Canadian culture with significant influence on American fiddle styles.
February 13th, 2010 at 12:05 am
Oh Canada. So close. At least it wasn’t the Olympic cauldron that screwed up.
Will, in all fairness to Jr, kd lang does sort of look like a young Wayne Newton in that white suit.

Winning should mean everything! The money they do make no matter how much, its going to be 400,000 and up at the MLB level, shouldnt matter. Most guys dont even get a shot at the playoffs and if you do its addictive!! You want it there every year or a shot at it.I had to go into to detox the first year the Braves didnt go!!!but relapsed found some VHS tapes of the Braves playoff seasons in review(all 14) i went through them like a MAD MAN I TELL YOU!! A MAD MAN!!

NEW SHOW! “Don’t throw your lollipops just hand McLouth the ball.” or something like that. See, I can’t be sure since it’s been a while since I heard the lyrics. Sad. Very sad.
