What the HEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL????????
February 22nd, 2010 at 6:12 pm
Bub,not that it couldnt happen but why? I could see the offer to Damon but not to G.A., again what could he possibly contribute? I think it would be a burden than an asset.

I’m curious as to whether Escobar will mature and get even beetter whether Diaz continues on such a tear.

better

Surely they’re not REALLY looking at him. Man, what a disaster. No way.
*beer in each hand*
Frank Wren, you better make this go away very quickly. Something definitive. Something like, “So, Frank, is there any truth to you looking into Garret Anderson?” “Oh, hell no. No freaking way. I wouldn’t hire Garret Anderson to clean my pool. We’ll put Bobby out in left field first. Nu-uh. Nope. That’s the stupidest question you could have asked me. Anything else?”
February 22nd, 2010 at 7:09 pm
Bub…don’t even repeat trashy tweets like that. I’d rather see Terry P. blow snot out of his naked nostril than GA in a Braves uni. I still remember Hammy watching a game during a show and completely coming unglued when Garrett missed the ball out in LF. Steve and Curt had to talk him off a ledge.
February 22nd, 2010 at 7:10 pm
…still laughing at “we’ll put Bobby out in LF first.” It’s the visual that kills me.
February 22nd, 2010 at 7:25 pm
Well, now, here is something much happier.

Bub, he stole your idea.
February 22nd, 2010 at 7:33 pm
Yeah, but he made a much stronger case. I’m not sure even I’m as sold on the offense as all that, but it’s nice to see the argument fleshed out.
February 22nd, 2010 at 7:53 pm
And Bradley stole mine:

Ugh. Well, that was sour.

Bub, your list left out the most important question: What jersey number will Heyward wear with the big club?? 12? 34? 24? Will he have to “trade” with a current player for another number?
February 22nd, 2010 at 11:24 pm
Heyward should wear #95.
As in 1995.
February 22nd, 2010 at 11:25 pm
McLouth took 24 cause LOST isn’t a number and it will give him Bauer power.
February 22nd, 2010 at 11:37 pm
McLouth listens to Brittany Spears. I’m just sayin’…

So, let’s say that Heyward starts the year with the club, plays the entire year, and hits .260 with 12 HRs. Strikeouts are not terrible and has a decent amount of walks. Is that a disappointment? I’m as pumped for the Heyward era as anyone, but what are reasonable expectations for Heyward in year 1? I’m clouded at this point. Because I’d be disappointed with those numbers.
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:27 am
Steve, those numbers are reeeeeeeally close to disappointment to me. If you raised it to .275 with those 12 HR’s, and if the second half was a step up from the first half, and if there was game-winning hit or two sprinkled in so I can see that big smile of his brighten the club… in other words, it’s hard to think of it in terms of numbers alone. There’s so much that is non-statistical surrounding a rookie of Heyward’s fame. A good, healthy year indicitive of a continued rise next year, with some exciting moments sprinkled in, and I’ll be satisfied. Especially if the team is winning.
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:32 am
Steve, here’s his fangraph stat page. James and CHONE differ dramatically. It looks like CHONE has him coming up in the middle of the season and doing very close to your scenario above. Bill James has him in position for ROY with .303 and 17 dingers.
I reckon much depends on his reaction the MLB curveballs.

Oops, forgot the link.

You know, I’m not sure I even know how to read that chart. Why would Bill James project as many homers at the major league level as he’s ever had in a year in the minors? Is that park down there really that huge? I dunno. I think I’m in over my head.
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:47 am
I’m almost more afraid of his numbers being too big this year leaving no where to go. That is probably an unfounded fear but I swear if he hits a homer his first at bat I will dig a hole in my back yard and crawl in. DOB just tweeted that he’s hitting bombs at BP. In other news Diory H. is recovering from shoulder surgery.
