Hmm these are good questions ,what would be considered a good starting numbers for a rookie superstar in the making. I would say similiar numbers to Ryan Klesko,Javier Lopez or Chipper rookie seasons would suffice. With his more patient demeanor i would say with much higher walk rates.

    Princess Leah Says:

Changed my mind…I want big numbers.

During BP Jason Heyward smashed the sunroof of Asst GM Bruce Manno’s car- about 450+ feet!

    Bubdylan Says:

No curveballs in batting practice. I’m just sayin’.

Tasty news, though, all this about Heyward and especially Glaus (looking smooth, easy, powerful, even “younger”).

    I’ll take it!

Well, we signed Big Ed. Of course now it seems like something must be wrong with him. Heh. Life’s funny.

    Steve Says:

What I didn’t put in my made up numbers about Heyward was OBP. Let it be above .325 with 12 – 15 homers and I’ll be happy. I think.

Great Tweet from Buster Olney: Best line of the spring so far: Andrew Jones showed up in great shape, about 25 pounds lighter than last year. And he proclaimed to others, “I am the best CFer you guys have in camp.” To which Joey Cora replied, “You should be. Only pitchers and catchers have reported.”

I don’t know how long these videos will stay at the top of this page (not familiar with TwitVid), but right now there are some vids of Braves at ST.

Steve, that’s too funny, that tweet from Olney.

    Steve Says:

Bub – great video link. Damn, Glaus certainly swings like a masher.

    Princess Leah Says:

Here’s what happens when you spend time with the Devil. Poor guy…they’ve ruined him.

Teixeira, on whether NYY are the favorites: “We have to think that every year. … We’re the Yankees.”

    Bubdylan Says:

I dunno if you all can see it, but in that video Heyward hits the fourth pitch right at TP, so the 5th pitch TP throws behind Jason. That’s why he’s laughing.

Our man Goldstein likes Salcedo for the top 5-7 Braves prospects “based on early info.” (DOB)

    Schweet.

lol @ ESPN. Nice article header.

Nice edit work there. In other news, Dewey beats Truman.

    Curt Says:

Zach Klein is my neighbor – he of the Twitvids. One of my other neighbors and I were laughing in envy that he was at spring training. His wife did not find it as amusing.

  15. 65
    Bubdylan Says:

“I’m a line-drive guy,” said Heyward, rated baseball’s No. 1 prospect by ESPN, Baseball America and MLB.com. “Anything that happens to come after a line drive is great.” (DOB)

There are no words for how beautiful that quote is. I freaking love power hitters who approach the game looking for line drives, not homers.

Jason Heyward puts the crush in my man-crush. (ooh, hey, that’s pretty good)

  16. 66
    Bubdylan Says:

    Curt, aren’t you up north?

  17. 67
    Curt Says:

That’s Ham. I know we are in essence the same person, but I am right in the heart of Atlanta.

  18. 68
    Bubdylan Says:

That’s right. You’re always talking about ATL. My bad.

  19. 69
    Bubdylan Says:

    Leah? Where you atz?

  20. 70
    Bubdylan Says:

    ^Absolutely an accident. Seriously.

  21. 71
    Steve Says:

Day 1 of the ST Heyward era really is off the charts. Between the Coke truck and asst. GM car denting, Bobby saying the ball coming off his bat sounds like Aaron and the BP video with TP throwing behind him. Heady times, people. Heady times.

    Tcc Says:

Steve, I couldn’t agree more or be more excited. I guess we’ll have to calm down at some point as JH becomes more “mortal”. It seems now like a forgone conclusion that he will start the season in the “bigs”.

  23. 73
    Bubdylan Says:

I’m pretty thrilled, too, guys. Heyward reminds me of Hanson and McCann, the way maturity and calm just exudes from his mannerisms. How lucky can one team get?

But MAN, does he seem bigger than life in a way that outstrips even Hanson. This is Paul Bunyan territory.

  24. 74
    Bubdylan Says:

    *exude

  25. 75
    Hammy Says:

For me, I am less concerned with Heyward’s numbers (LESS concerned, not completely unconcerned) and more concerned with his progress. Is he making adjustments, is he learning from his mistakes, is he improving as the season goes on. I think a typical cycle is that when pitchers first see hitters, the advantage goes to the batter. Then, with tape and everything, pitchers tend to figure batters out (see Francoeur, Jeff), and the pitchers have the advantage. After that, the good players make adjustments and the bad players don’t. That’s what I want to see, how he adjusts.

I actually can’t remember being this excited about a new Brave. Chipper was exciting, but he came along at heady times for the Braves. Same story for Andruw. McCann and Frenchy sort of took me by surprise. Greg Norton did not.

That’s my two cents. Anyone know how I can watch ST games in Boston? MLBTV doesn’t have them. Bummer.
