I’m really having a hard time feeling sorry for Mister Blister. I keep picturing Schilling continuing to pitch with blood pouring through his sock. Is Lowe a pansy or is the blister on the toe of a pitcher that painful? My son had a blister on the top of his foot and played a whole soccer game without a word. Of course he is superman.
I love Johnny Cash!
March 10th, 2010 at 10:36 pm
I’ll give Lowe the benefit of the doubt since he has a career full of work horse seasons. Frankly, I’m relieved it came down to something like that and not “I just didn’t have it today.”
Don’t get me wrong, I feel a general twang of annoyance when I think of Lowe starting on opening day versus Carlos Zambrano. But as bad news goes, the blister is good news.
I got started on your Avett Bros. stream. It looks awesome. Groovy that they drug a drummer into that tight space.
Feeling a shocking lack of confidence in the team creeping in. Maybe it’s just post-Heyward-bomb let down.
March 10th, 2010 at 10:57 pm
Jason the “J Hey Kid”, I’ll buy that t shirt right now!
Leah, are the AV Bros. Braves fans? I think they need to be..are you working on that?
March 10th, 2010 at 10:59 pm
The Lowe thing is crazy. Leah, I don’t think it speaks to his toughness. It changed his entire delivery and mental approach (the blister was apparently larger than a quarter!). But, it does speak to boneheaded-ness. He’s always, until this offseason, wrapped his toe because of this blister problem. I don’t care if he was blister free this offseason, wrap the freaking toe if you’ve got a long history of this issue. These Spring starts are too important.

Easy, Bub..the future is bright. I see McLouth and Prado having a very good year. Escobar being more consistent, Chipper getting back to his “norm”. B Mac Can! and a strong MVP candidate. Glaus is a wildcard coming back from surgery at a new position, but looks good so far…and J Hey will even be talked about on NPR. A blister here or there is not like an MCL, I think Lowe and the rest of the staff will be solid.
March 11th, 2010 at 7:56 am
My heart must not be as big as Bub’s. I’m not at all happy with Lowe. Maybe it is more the lack of attention to detail. I was glad he said he was embarrassed. That helped a little.
Mr. T, I’m glad you see McLouth having a good year. I hope he gets started on that soon. I think the Brothers MUST be Braves fans. How could they not be? They’re both so totally awesome! Speaking of awesome, my little guy told me yesterday that his green lightsaber was in his left hand. A-MAZING!
March 11th, 2010 at 9:53 am
Believe me, Lowe is *this close* to transfering himself from endearingly knuckleheaded to selfish jerk. But, honestly, the taped toe neglect sounds exactly like something I’d do. Hey, it’s not messing up this year, maybe I’ve been too careful with this and I don’t have to tape it after all. Followed by “Doh!” when my shoe eats my toe ten minutes into the game. When you add his self-disparaging comments to the mix, I’ll postpone my Lowe-anger to some other day. He’s never going to be my favorite Brave, but there’s a quirky humility to him that helps me not hate him.
Congrats on your boy’s left hand recognition. The sword fight scene in Princess Bride would be a good reward. “I know sumting you donno… I am not leffhonded!” *bum-ba-DAAAAHHH*
March 11th, 2010 at 9:57 am
And of COURSE I’ve got a bigger heart than you. Was that something you were in doubt about? 8)
March 11th, 2010 at 10:43 am
I love that the cover story of the new SI is about Matt Weiters – another former GT Yellow Jacket star – and in the realm of catchers everything is compared to Mauer. I know the reference for that article is top/high draft picks used on catchers and their general lack of success, but the lack of national love that McCann gets is really staggering. Not sure what he has to do to get in the talk as the best catcher in baseball.

I don’t hate the Mets, I say again. But this never gets old:

Franky pointing to the sky with victory in hand, and then the whole trainwreck unfolding in slow motion on Castillo. I’ll bet it’s Kelly Johnson’s favorite moment in sports.
March 11th, 2010 at 11:18 am
No Bub…never in doubt. The national Braves love happnin’ due to Heyward is almost shocking which is sad and shows how often our Bravos get the shaft. McCann deserves way more ink and hopefully one day he’ll get it.

Okay, last link for today. But this one’s priceless for the very last thing he says.

Also nice to see him take complete ownership of his failures. The last line, though, classic.
March 11th, 2010 at 11:40 am
I love Wags! Great clip and great last line. It makes me want to just hug him.
March 11th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
I’m frustrated w/ the Braves & CSS…they’ve said that there will be two games broadcasted this week on Tuesday & Tonight. And what do their websites say for their schedule??? There will be no game… I’d rather see Peachtree TV handle the games than CSS…or better Fox Sports…they’ve really dropped the ball. I’m disappointed in them.

Hehe on the CCR. The endless FL rain. Classic song too.
March 12th, 2010 at 1:07 am
Nice to see you around, BluesMan.
March 12th, 2010 at 7:52 am
I saw a great Canes victory at RBC Center last night. Crosby who?
March 12th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
A friend of mine started this t-shirt company. I’m not nearly cool enough to hang in them but maybe some of you are. http://purejoyapparel.myshopify.com/products/skull-missiles

Kelly Johnson’s batting .417, OBP around .530 through his first 12 AB’s.
March 12th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
My line up, if we opened tomorrow:
Heyward (high walk rate, line drive hitter, can steal.)
Prado
Escobar
Glaus
Chipper
McCann
McLouth
Diaz/ Melky
It’s not perfect. McCann’s too far down, but he protects Chipper. Chipper drives in singles-machine Glaus during his non-power stretches. This is our line up. Why is it not being discussed? I’m too brilliant for the world I live it.
March 12th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
Good for KJ and it’s good to see Homer back. I was getting worried.
March 12th, 2010 at 4:57 pm
Bub – it’s not being discussed because Chipper bats third. End of discussion.
March 12th, 2010 at 5:09 pm
Chipper Schmipper. Esco would be sweet in the 3 spot.
